Wanted Mod: First person everything.

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 4:05 am

As the title states I'd love to see a mod where the ENTIRE game can be played from first person view. I find it bizarre that the devs for some reason decided to make the game force third person in a LOT of instances. Weather it was laziness or some other poor choice that lead to it I don't care, I'd just like to see it fixed.

1. Horse riding. (I have to assume this was just plain laziness, seeing as oblivion had both first and third person view for this.)
2. Sitting. (At least they bothered to get the view height correct this time around.)
3. Finishers. (Should be very easy to fix, seeing as they have both first and third person finishers for each type. Why they decided it should be random is beyond me, and just foolish.)

Can't seem to think of any others currently, but I know there are some. Some of these should be easy fixes, some perhaps impossible short of a script extender. I don't expect these to be fixed pre-CK obviously, just letting others know this would be appreciated for both immersion and just plain common sense gameplay that should have launched this way.

none of it was laziness, just design choices. I would prefer first person views though. Werewolves too.

Man do I miss first person horse riding. I can't stand the turning controls in third person for horseback riding. Nor do I like how my horse goes transparent or invisible when I turn with obstacles behind me. Extremely annoying.

Love to see this for horses. I can't understand why they decided to force third-person for horses, first-person seemed to work well enough in Oblivion. The first time I mounted a horse, I spent the next couple minutes trying to find an option to force a first-person view, then discovered I was stuck in third person. That was the last time I rode a horse.

That plus companions not being able to ride with me caused me to just sprint everywhere.

Also, can I please have my legs back. 3: pretty please? I don't know who took them but there is a strange feeling of "missingness" that prevails through nearly all of my body, it cuts off at my shoulders but it leaves me feeling unsettlingly "floaty". Worried for my physical attachment to this world. Random nord.

totally /signed all of it.
First person ALL the finishers would be highly appreciated by me! I actually was as foolish as to have a look at the options if I can disable third person finishers (or at least do them 3rd person while I'm fighting in 3rd person and the other way around - looking at my character doing awesome stuff is nice from time to time. but doing finishers in first person feels more immersive and doesn't interrupt the combat flow as much as third person finishers do)

"Edits the over the shoulder/third person/horse camera settings to allow for more zoom and seamless transition from unsheathed to sheathed. As a bonus the mod now also attempts to have a go at a fake first person horse riding camera."

These are actually just intelligent INI tweaks.

Indeed. First person legs are one of the most stupidly overlooked features of any first person shooter game. Someone needs to standardize them to be included with major engines, just so the developers don't have an excuse to be lazy about it.

When I look down and see legs, pretty much GOTY. The amount of immersion it adds for something so simple makes me wonder why so many pass it up!

I hope the attempts to rectify this do not end up fruitless or inelegant like they did in Oblivion.

You couldn't possibly know that.

BTW first person dynamic wood cutting would be AWESOME. You swing it yourself, split the wood, wood gets added to your inventory. You miss, no wood. First person dynamic mining would be great too. But I suspect these would be very difficult, if not impossible, to do.

Agreed Seems a bit of both laziness and poor design choice, Also vampire feeding fosters you with the consolesk 3rd person view.

First person dynamic mining would be great too.

Not sure if you'd consider it "dynamic", but you can mine in first person. Just equip a pick (or dual-wield two of them) and attack the ore vein.

OP: Your list missed all crafting skills/stations. (alchemy, enchanting, forges, grindstones, armor tables, smelters)
