If the PS3 died while Skyrim was being played then it was more than likely the OP's fault for having a system that wasnt properly cared for, the PS3 is almost never reading the disc while you're playing (Unlike MW2.5's Multiplayer where its reading the disc every 4 seconds), if the system died its not the game's fault its probably yours for letting it overheat.

And if you're using an old fat PS3 it was just a matter of time, the thermal paste in those systems wasnt the best and those systems heated up way more than a console should, if you had one THIS long then be glad it died now, thats quite a track record in itself.

If it was a Slim and it died, its more than likely you.

Again, games dont cause system failure. Faulty hardware or faulty owners do.

there are literally countless variables to take into account in this particular situation.

you can't exactly pick one issue and logically conclude that it is solely responsible.

not saying it wasn't a factor. but i can say confidently, that it was not the only one.

If it's less than a year old it's still under warranty. Period. Sony has never returned a system that crapped out with a note, "Sorry, we don't cover this because game xxx broke the system."

Just get yourself a fresh PS3 out of the whole experience and call it a day.

And this is why I invested in the 2 year protection program from the PSN Store. After New Vegas roasted my previous 7 month old Slim model, I've made sure to have a warranty from Sony (my previous slim had a warranty from Best Buy, so they wanted to just do repairs on it instead of put new parts).

Exactly, which is why I'd like to warn individuals with a massive safe file who keep playing it for an hour at a time. They are essentially strangling their machine. It's unfortunate but true.

if its not the yellow light its probably a hard drive corruption look up the steps for re-formatting the HDD its a memory 1.) Hold PS3 start button until it beeps then turns itself back off after youve turned it on 2.) do this again but when it does its second beep but different than the first remove your finger from the front of the PS3 and youll get a menu to re-format and do system BIOs stuff.

Something Productive: There is a reminder that since the glitchiness/lagging is caused by the save file being too large for the PS3 to handle, restarting it every hour is only damaging the PS3 by overtaxing and overheating the system.

People could potentially lose their PS3's by not having enough patience for the patch.

http://techcrunch.com/2010/08/02/is-starcraft-ii-killing-video-cards-or-is-it-merely-a-harbinger-of-bigger-problems/

Read this article about something that happened to gamers when playing Starcraft 2. Software can exploit bigger problems. So yes, the game has the potential to kill your PS3 if the PS3 is in bad condition or have underlining problems. It's not the game itself, but condition your PS3 is in that can push it over the edge.
