warrior only gameplay bit boring?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 6:19 pm

i played now several characters to around level 5 i know, its not that high but still lets you see the mechanics - sneaking/archery this time around - marvelous!, magic - super fun and versataile! but warrioring only without any magic/stealth s kinda boring...with a shield you get at least a bash...but otherwise...not really and tactics...power attack, block, attack, then when he starts his power attack make a faster on forward....etc....melee only got kinda boring after 10 hours of playing (as said on a char without magic/archery/stealth)....am i the only one who thinks so? yes you get the perks but the are more the animation kind then the tactics kind...

so im wondering, in your opinion how could you make melee more interesting?

kicks with foot (to stagger)
more different power attacks or special attacks
dodging rolls and stuff
throwing weapons - or throwing your weapon
kick in the knee lets enemies drop to the ground

what ya think?

That sounds about right. Warriors in many RPGs are simple and can seem boring, but they can survive the longest.

Archery is a part of the warrior side of the game. My character is basicly a Paladin. He uses healing magic, bows, 1 handed, 2 handed. He occassionally sneaks too but he's not that good at it.

I am playing a warrior who sneaks, just because it's the logical thing you'd do in a creepy dungeon.
When I get my shouts I will of course use them as well, as it's part of the story line.

Im going to play as two roles

1. A unorthadox knight we wears heavy armour and either weilds a single sword or duel sword.

2. A sneaky assassin, using blades to dispatch his foes.

Im not really into the magic side of the game except for healing spells, and since I will only be switching between 2 modes of play I will be able to balance out the 2 classes.

Also I havent even gotten the game yet but this is how I want to play so it may change...

My character is a warrior type. One handed weapons along with a shield. Plus my sneak and archery are really high as well so I mix it up between those two. Also pick pocketing people, and raiding house. I don't use magic though. I figure I wouldn't be able to be really good at all of them so I decided to leave magic out. I'm having fun without it.

Warhammer wielding Orc. if there is anything this cant take on flat out melee he will will just shout hes Berserk and follow with dragon shouts and BASHING !!!

nothing more satisfying than that :P

he also uses bows, poisons, enhaments and does hes own eguipment so i have no complaining about my way of play style being boring :D

The warrior is made of tactical option. He sneaks up on his enemy Arrow knocked on his bow, and initiates combat with an arrow sneak attack. He continues to rain arrows on his enemies until the near. The then draws his two-handed weapon and cuts down all of the little bad guys like they are nothing. Once the leader of the groups shows up he switches to sword and shield to fight more defensively against deadlier attacks and use bash to interrupt deadly power attacks.

A real warrior utilizes all of his options (except for magic that is mage stuff) to maximize his tactical advantage in a fight and adapt the situation. I use two handed, archery, and one-handed and shield, and I switch between an axe and a sword in one-handed because different situations call for a different weapon.

I started out as nord warrior-hunter type and melee does seem a bit dull.
Probably the weakest point in the game in my oppinion. (epic good otherwise)
It's too straightforward, feels like i'm swinging at air and I don't like the finishing moves at all.

It did not take long for me to start another character, breton mage. Magic is so awesome.

This...

I am a Orc 2h Sword Warrior so Far I've only done very Warrior Specific things: Level Heavy Armor, Level 2 Handed Swords, Smithing, Restoration and a little bows just to pull someone to me from afar.

Otherwise he's a freaking monster...just Berserker Shout and go to freaking town...I never get tired of the FATALITY thru the stomach lift you off the ground finisher the Warrior does. My only real complaint is the Stamina consumption for 2Handers is a bit rough compared to magic users...who can just spam all day.

Stamina regens a LOT slower for 2hands/heavy which is kind of lame. But I am loving my warrior...he's a truck...

That's the great thing about the class system you can branch out into anything, or build an Archetype character.

I'm playing a Redguard Dual Wield warrior, and I absolutely love it. I do feel like there is a diversity of tactics, even with a warrior. For instance, if I fight a 2-handed weapon fighter, I often have to overwhelm him with quick attacks. If I try to power attack him, I'll take a ton of damage. With lightly armed rogues/archers, I rush in and land as many power attacks as I can, because one or two will kill them before they ready their blade. Couple all of this with the Shouts, the *ability* I gained from the Companions, and some basic spells (I use Heal very regularly), and I feel like I have a very versatile character.

My shining moment was when I faced my second dragon. I scaled the top of a tower, leapt off and landed on his head. After a few quick slices, he died before I landed on the ground.

That's what I love most about Skyrim. Bethesda has done a superb job at making our characters' badasses.

i am just saying you could make melee gameplay much more interesting by adding more active skills...like riposte/counter attack you have to time, hitting someone with the pumel to knock em down or hitting specific bodyparts like the hands so that the enemy looses it weapons...or the ones mentioned above...the class system is great but what i really dont like - 99% of the perks all give passive bonuses, no active skills...especially on the warrior side...

I'm playing as a traditional warrior type, heavy armour 2h and 1h. I haven't used any magic yet but I will use a bit of restoration and destruction and of course shouts.

Yeah I agree, its how you utilize all your options that makes Warriors fun and more realistic! I am playing as a Wood Elf Ranger atm, bows over distance while sneaking (which is awesome btw nothing like 1 arrow kills then to find you have shot them between the eyes from range) then as they come into range switching to a sword and shield or a sword and a healing spell! I found the perks really interesting and useful this time round too, a great improvement over Oblivion! This game is so addictive, my Wife and 2 year old girl hate it :)

yes yes option option options and perks perks all great but we definately need more active skills, more active movements/attacks that you can use - i could think of at least 20 easy possibilities to implement this...it would also increase replayability drastically because this way you could even more fine tune your character - especially the archetype...i think its not ideal that most perks are passive...e.g. in fallout nv you could learn certain special melee attacks from trainers - that was cool, i think thats what tes needs as well...

I'm now playing a warrior with 2handed, archery, heavy armour and smithing. I don't find the combat boring (yet). With the archery + 2handed you have some tactics, and once you add shouts it becomes a lot more interesting. Also with 2 handed you can block, attack normally, do 3 different powerattacks and do a quick punch to fakeout anyone trying to hit you. I haven't completely got the hang of it yet, but I'm getting better.

Also, you can add poisons to your combat strategy, and the traps that are found around dungeons. Just cleared a forlorn cave (quite small) by killing one or two enemies by activating a trap at the right time. loving it.
