We thought long and hard during this discussion, with all sincerity. I then made the point that if this is what it takes to unify the United States, then who are we?

To keep the nation awake, do we really need a 9/11 every decade? What have we become?

He was right... And wrong. As humans, I think we do genuinely care about each other, just moreso when in times of need.
