Last night I was waiting for Steam to unlock my Skyrim preload at 1:00 AM in Europe. A few hours before I started reading post in this forums with the first PC impressions. All of them was bad, horrible, the worst PC game ever. Textures from 2004, mouse not working, the sky falling over our heads.
So when I was about to start my first Skyrim game I was terrified. I had a long list of initial tweaks and solutions to apply to my copy. But I decided risking my life running the vanilla game. My hands were shaking, my cat was shivering under my bed, the wind was howling outside my window. I was alone in the night.
So... I run the game. Everything set at very high. Default FOV. Default VSync. Was I a mad person?
The game started. The initial scene I had seen in many videos. I surprised myself looking at every texture, every tree, the wood, the sky, the driver, the others prisioners... Wow, is that so bad? I asked myself. I was looking at one of the best good looking games ever. The graphics are awesome. The ultra textures are impressive. The world is alive. The weather is shivering. The reviews are not wrong. It's one of the best games ever.
The texture problem was a punctual problem of people with very high end hardware (maybe bad drivers). The worst of all is the menu. It's hard for a PC player to get used to it. There are a lot of trolls saying even that the faces are horrible and couldn't continue playing.
Just play. I was impressed. Everything set at max. No problem. No fps drop. No flying mamuts.
Play and enjoy. Best game I've ever played. A thousand reviews can't be wrong, neither the elder scrolls
