The concept of Hearthfire is fantastic, however I (and many other XB360 players) have had trouble actually recieving the letter from the Jarl. Certain characters (with less contradicting quests) can actually recieve the letter from the Jarl, but after completing the required tasks, no dialogue option is available to acess getting your home............ Not so much trouble regaurding adopting a child.. but whats the point if you don't have an incredible house to bring up Oliver Twist in. Does ANYONE know how to/ if Bethesda will work out these issues.

(also, has there been anymore available partners to marry in the past two DLC packs. I haven't heard anything... just wishful thinking.)

I have the opposite problem. My house is awesome but I can't get stewards or kids to stay in it. Plus with the time I spend reloading to fix glitchy stuff like all my armor disappearing from the armory, it gets really annoying. They should pay me 5 bucks for this. I've never been more disappointed with Bethesda.

exactly! if I wanted a lackluster game I would go buy Dead Rising.... except Dead Rising has the courtesy of ACTUALLY WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to be a negative Nancy... but seriously, I would appreciate a public statement from Todd Howard saying
"I'm sorry guys, I screwed up... all of you can steal various items from my house so you can pawn them off as repayment for this peice of cr*** DLC"

I don't understand. I played Dead Rising 2 and it was incredibly awesome. You should play it instead of reloading save after save and spending hours upon hours trying to just start this bugged DLC. You could beat the game before you get Hearthfire to work properly and have a lot more fun.

what do you mean? should I remove the DLC? I dont want to beat the game for awhile... I'm one of those "take my time" types.... Is Bethesda doing anything to fix the glitches???

1) Uninstall Hearthfire
2) Uninstall any patches for Skyrim
3) Clear your HDD Cache
4) Play game and update, then exit
5) Start game again, press hold LB+RB+X at the same time as soon as the screen goes black and release when the Start option appears, this clears GAME CACHE, you will know it's working because it takes longer to get to get to the Start screen, and your Xbox/HDD will make more noise. *do a couple of times if your not sure you did it right* then exit again.
6) Redownload Hearthfire
7) See if it helps? :s

What exactly are you having problems with? Certain criteras have to be met before you can purchase a plot from the steward. There are known bugs in the DLC but without saying what trouble you are having, it's hard to help. The most trouble people are having with is the Falkreath plot and it stems from doing the DB quest killing his housecarl.

On the off chance you're referencing Falkreath (because I had the Jarl problem there), I went around and tried to complete ALL of the Rare Gifts quests found here: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Rare_Gifts

I was able to complete all but one (didn't get the option for one). Then I went back to the Jarl and it worked, despite that none of the other people on the list were related to the Jarl.

yeah, I thought only the Falkreath Jarl could give you the letter? How do you get one from the Jarl in Riften?

I don't see where anyone mentioned Riften.
Just try completing the quests on that page (it took about 20-30 minutes for me). It didn't get me a letter (I only ever got one letter, I believe), but it opened up the dialogue option that was NOT there before the quests.

You can't buy property to build a house in the Rift - you already have the option to buy Honeyside there.

You can only buy property and build in the three holds where you can't buy a house in the vanilla game - Falkreath, The Pale (Dawnstar) and Hjallmarch (Morthal). You can't buy in Winterhold either, since you can get player housing once you join the college.

The only plots for sale are in Falkreath, Morthal and Dawnstar.

The letter is not important, for some reason if you didn't get a letter, you can still purchase property if you met the proper criteria. The FAQ in the Hearthfire section will tell you what is needed. I purchased the Morthal plot without any notice. I just spoke with the steward and it was available. After I fixed my Falkreath problem, I just spoke with the steward, no letter. Never received a letter besides adoption and the fix to the Whiterun house.

You do not need the letter to buy property. I never received a letter from any of the jarls and i was still able to purchase all 3 lands.

Yeah, the no letter thing may not be an actual glitch as apparently you never get one if you're a thane in the area. Also, from what I gather, you will only get 1 letter anyway, once you have one letter, you can then go to all three holds and get the property (assuming you meet the criteria). The letter you may or may not receive can also be from a different hold entirely, not one of the three. Mine was from the Jarl of Whiterun and his steward proceeded to tell me I could alter my house to allow adoption.

What I think is meant to happen is that you get the note, go to the hold, talk to the Jarl, do some missions to become Thane, then have the option to buy the land, I don't think the land is supposed to be immediately available upon arrival.

You get the letter if you are already thane, or are at least in favour with the Jarl. You get nothing from him if your character is some nobody he has never heard of. Why would he be sending a stranger an offer to buy land? I would think everyone who owned Breezehome would have got the letter for the Whiterun house. Those who had already killed Grelod and finished the related quest would have got the letter about adopting. So probably some got no letter at all from a courier, does not mean there is anything wrong.

On the contrary, one of my characters got a letter last night from the Jarl of Falkreath, for whom he'd done nothing yet. It seems his "fame had spread." I'm playing it that the Greybeards' "DOVAHKIIN!" summon easily reached Siddgeir's ears.

Must be a glitch, our fame never got us anything else. And did he sell you the land?

Idk its a good DLC for a werewolf character..merely because you can make a house near Falkreath...that whole area just screams "Werewolves are afoot" especially at night..in my opinion.

I'll probably have to give the guy a beer first, once I make it back down from those Graybeards (courier approached at Ivarstead on the way up).

That's exactly it! I heard i can buy the plot from the Nord steward, but the one I speak to is a highelf!! Are there certain quests I have to complete. Also! In my main account, I don't even receive a letter from Falkreath.... I want to buy houses everywhere, but this DLC hates me.
