Watching the new *leaked* footage...

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 4:32 pm

I'm not going to direct anyone to any links, however, I will note that watching the footage I was slightly underwhelmed. Perhaps it was because it was played on the 360, but the graphics just weren't that great. I think what hit me most was when I saw the facial customization. It was the hair options that really put me off. Maybe I'm being too picky, but after all the hype that this is going to look better than Oblivion, I'm just not seeing it.

Actually, it wasn't low res at all. In fact, I had also watched it full screen and not on Youtube. Not to mention, I don't believe you can really pick your graphical settings on an XBOX. So, therefore this was legitimate quality footage, and I saw nothing jaw droppingly gorgeous about it.

You may want to get your eyes checked. If you believe Skyrim doesn't look better than (equal to) or looks worse than Oblivion.

Just because the characters look better, doesn't mean the environments look much different. You have to remember, they were inspired by a lot of the mods from Oblivion and there were plenty of environmental mods out there to choose from. So with that in consideration, and even with Oblivions overhaul due to said mods, I just don't see much difference.

Not to mention, they aren't using a new engine for this game, so I suppose I shouldn't really be surprised. They keep saying they are, but they're not. They're just updating the older system everyone hated.

I'm sorry. I completely disagree with your assessment. I think Skyrim (unmodded) looks leaps and bounds better than Oblivion (unmodded). Heck...in my opinion, Skyrim (unmodded) looks better than MOST graphic overhaul mods for Oblivion.

P.S. - I still think you need to get your eyes checked.

So you watched it in person on an hd tv? Was the 360 hooked up by hdmi cable or av cables? Sooo unless you watched it in person on an hd tv with and hdmi cable idk why your worried. And he meant the video of someone recording someone playing isn't gonna have the best re[censored]ion...reguardless if you watch it on youtube or not

It looks better than OB for sure, but some things, such as the super pixelated shadows, some poorly blended wall textures, and ultra-mega-steroid-vein arms do jump out as a little off.

Overall still a good looking game, but as with any Beth game, expect a bit of inconsistency.

Mind sending me the link to this legit HD quality footage bc the one I saw was pretty low res.

Dude, what does that matter? The fact is, it's footage from 360, and who's to say it's not at the peak of performance or television screen? The footage I watched was not recorded via some cam, it looked exactly like any other preview you'd see for the game elsewhere.

At a point where the player characters get knowcked down with his hand-bonds still on, there was a third person animation where he got himself back on his feet. There, the hands weren't tied. Just a small thing, not really a biggy.

I never expected it to be "jaw-droppingly gorgeous". It's better than Fallout 3 and IMO it is much better than Oblivion, and that does it for me. :)

If you streamed it then it's still compressed to make it buffer within a reasonable amount of time... after five years of working with the 360 Bethesda wouldn't downgrade their graphics. The game will look much better than in these videos, which don't look bad to begin with despite the pc elitists' comments.

No, but that's not my point. With all the hype about how much better it's supposed to look, and all the other beautiful looking games out there like say... Crysis (I don't play shooters, but I can say it looks awesome) I expected more from Bethesda.

Skyrim isn't beautiful in a graphics sense, the great thing about TES is the art. I couldn't care less about graphics.
Also, Crysis isn't a huge Open world RPG packed to the brim with content. Is it?

Oh right... of course I'm an elitist because I want something to look nice when I put out hundreds, if not thousands (for some), to have a game play and match what I paid for in computers.

This is exactly the reason why Bethesda is trying to stop these leaks. I never expected the 360 version to look jaw dropping gorgeous (or the PC version on the setting most people will be playing at for that matter). Afterall this is an detailed openworld RPG, there is only so much texture quality you can put into it before it becomes impossible to load and play at a reasonable framerate. Problem is that despite this not being Skyrim maxed out, it is also a really low resolution video.

I remember watching the hand recorded 20 min demo and being disappointed in the lightning and textures. Than I saw the actual 720p footage on Bethesda's youtube channel and I was blown away. Naturally it wasnt as good looking as a non-openworld game like Crysis 2 on the 360, but as far as openworld games go it really was the pinaccle. The same thing is going on here, half the quality was taken out when the footage was recorded, youtube and re-recordings did the rest.

I'm sure that once the game is released people will be lining up to take their shots at the graphics, animations and what not. Only than will all have the actual game and our opinions wil be based on firsthand experiences and shared by the entire community. Of course I'll be playing the game but if people want to discuss what they're seeing, that will be the time to do it.

Ya have no clue what res it was recorded at or what that person was playing at, so if your going to talk res about how the game looks then you better know the answers to the question otherwise you look foolish talking about it without adressing those issues

From all the footage of Crysis that I've seen, it looks fairly open. Though, for a shooter, I'd guess it needs to be slightly more linear. Either way, everything in Crysis was photo realistic. I don't know why, but I have a thing for water, and some games do it really well. Until now, I thought Bethesda had done a bang on job, but looking at the stream in this leaked footage, when the guy was standing over the water, the lines of white that were supposed to represent its bubbly movement or whatever, it just looked so bland and fake. Great far away, terrible up close.

im yet to find any HD footage of the leak...so if someone has some then id love a PM on it.
all the links ive found have only been standard res...pretty low def.
without a true HD or at least higher quality version its gonna be real tough to make a true statement.
plus im a pc gamer and not used to seeing/knowing what 360 graphics look like anyway (i have a ps3 and with the various games ive duplicated playing the ps3 and pc versions of then there really is no way a console will stand up to a pc version)
but what i have seen of the footage looked pretty good; nice atmosphere, not many glitches and nothing nasty and horrible......all looked pretty sweet to me!
