That is a good question. I know in Oblivion and the FO series you have to be VERY careful when you put your stuff in certain containers as if you don't "own" them your stuff can disappear. I am eagerly awaiting one of the first mods which will be a "bag of holding". Is there any console command to increase carry weight?

I hate how little you can carry. Taking 1 level of Stamina is only 5 extra pounds AND you miss out on more health and magic? Giving a perk to raise encumbrance 100 points to the pickpocket tree of all things? Kill a dragon and there is like 75 pounds right there from the bones and scales.

If you drop an item on the floor in a village someone might run up to you and ask if they can have it, that's happened to me before. i've never personally lost something live dropped in my house, I'm not sure if items in dungeons can disappear though.

I agree the encumbrance perk shouldn't be anything to do with pickpocketing thats like forcing you to be a thief just because you wan't to carry more stuff like if you are being an honest trader,

I don't see why you'd drop a golden statue in the street without anyone taking it when no1's watching. Just get a house and store your stuff there.

I agree that you can carry too little stuff. I end up dropping weapons and armors everywhere, and after one dungeon you are already full .
