weapon choice for one handed

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 1:24 pm

I plan to play Nord warrior/light armor/one handed and shield. There is obvious advantage in specializing in one weapon only and I am torn about the choice. Which fully perked weapon in your opinion will be the deadliest and why. I am not asking about the looks.

Against NPCs, probably maces. They wont do as much damage against unarmored opponents, but you don't really need to do much damage to kill enemies without armor anyway.

Against the rest, I'm guessing swords unless bleed damage is high enough to compensate for both the (likely) lower attack speed and lack of critical chances.

That being said, I don't think you can get a sword critical on a sword power attack, but I think you still get the bleed damage on power attacks.

Nords look good with axes so I'd say go for that. :)

I plan to dual-wield axes with my Orc (I also plan to switch between them and a two-handed axe). I don't plan to take the bleeding perk for them either. I don't think it's all that needed with the Orcs Berserker Rage power (or at higher levels period for that matter).

There is no best one, if they know what the hell they're doing this time around. Swords are the fastest and have critical chance so they'll theoretically have the best straight damage output. Axes will be good against creatures with huge amounts of HP because they bleed them out over time. Maces will be good against heavily-armored characters and creatures (which I'm hoping Dwemer Centurions will be). If you're being a proper warrior it's a good idea to invest at least a little bit in all three weapon perks so that you always have options and can switch out as you need to.

I have decided to go uncoventional against swords with either mace or axe. The good point for the axe though I can hide with my shield rise watching my oponent bleed to death. I wonder if axe will require more stamina to swing than other types

Is that really how axes work?? They just bleed the opponent until they die? What happens if we get hit by an axe...

I imagined it would be like an additional +25-50% damage over 5 seconds with a bleeding animation or something..

i am pretty sure its a damage over time for a small time that is renewed after each hit. You cant just tag a giant and then hide in a corner for an hour.

kinda funny how if you find a regular one handed weapon that does 3x the damage of your dagger, that weapon still does more backstab damage... I hope the daggers do almost as much damage as the swords with just less reach and maybe no sword crit perks etc.

That's... a very good point. I'm still planning on going dual-daggers at this point, but as it stands, daggers seem to be worthless. I can only hope there are some cool dagger specific death blows.

I plan on dual wielding swords up to the point where I unlock the x15 sneak dmg with daggers. Then I will use dual daggers while silently taking out targets. If/when I am spotted and melee combat is assured its back to dual swords.

I won't use a one hander as i'll be a strict mage... but if I did, the Axe Bleed sounds pretty nice.

Dual wielding maces. Ignoring armor seems far better than bleeding or a higher critical hit chance.

Against armored enemies, I agree completely. But with so many armorless enemies in Skyrim I think the bleed will come in handy more often.

Will weapon type really matter against certain foes? Traditionally maces worked best against skeletons and I think certain types of maces actually worked pretty good against armor.
