Weapon-editing form in Creation Kit stays disabled :(.......

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:00 am

Hey everyone

Is anyone else having this problem? I just downloaded the Creation Kit from Steam but the weapon form is greyed out! This is what I did:
  • Loaded Creation KIt (CK)
  • Set Skyrim as Active File & let it load (it loads with some error messages but after that the CK starts fine.)
  • I selected an existing weapon
  • Right click > Duplicate & a copy is created.
  • But even when I went to my copy to edit it the Weapon Form remains greyed out :(

This is the form Im on about, mine stays greyed out and nothing can be edited:

Therefore I cannot follow this tutorial:

Any advice please..!! Thank you.

I don't think you're supposed to set Skyrim.esm as the active file..

What happens if you just load it without setting it as active, THEN duplicate and edit a weapon?

Thanks for the reply, it looked encouraging but unfortunately that doesnt work either! I did notice something though. The weapons I want to edit are Daedric.

In the Daedric weapons list only the first 9 weapons are editable. The weapon-forms on these are not greyed out. But starting from Daedric Battleaxe of Devouring (editor ID: EnchDaedricBattleaxeAbsorbH04) I am unable to edit anything.

I notice a similar thing in other weapons catergories (Imperial etc) The first few weapons can be edited, the remainder cannot.

Ahh I see, just checked.
Thing is, if you set the Template under Common Data in the Edit Weapon-form, from Daedric Battleaxe to NONE, everything can be edited as usual!

Whoaa that works! Thanks loads! :)

What does the "Template" field do? It does not matter that I set it to "NONE"? It wont affect the weapon in anyway?

It just fills in the values based on the weapon you put in there. That way, if you need to make lots of variants with for example different enchantments, and you need to change the damage of each of them, you only have to change the one that is set as the template for the others!

Ohh ok - I see what you mean! So a bit like a folder in Windows with lot of files (weapon variants) within it - if Ive understood it right.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, it has helped a lot. No doubt I will be on these forums a lot, learning and asking. Too bad I cant import the Gatling from Fallout 3 but I shall make a good sword :drag:
