Weapon Plaque Woes

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 7:04 am

I've been having all sorts of misadventures with mannequins, bookshelves, etc. Sometimes, when I get them to work, I don't know how I did, but I'm satisfied anyway.

So now, I have three weapon/shield plaques. The first works perfectly with the X of the weapons behind the O of the shield. However, the other two end up placing the X above the O toward the ceiling, that is, the hilts are at the same spot, but the weapons cross up instead of down. What's weird is that the good plaque was a copy and paste from one of the weird ones.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

I reported this during beta test. What I found is that when the racks/plaques are placed around 0 or 180 rotation angle, they work fine.
When you place them around 90 or 270 rotation angle, they put weapons upside-down on the rack.
I have not looked at the scripts to see if that could be fixed or not. But in-game, they all seem to be set around the 0 or 180 angle.

Lol, I had a feeling . . . My mannequin triggers seemed to be sensitive to angles as well, only they DIDN'T like the 0 degree point, bookcase triggers, too. What a strange type of bug! Anyway, time to redecorate, I guess. Thanks for the help.

On a hunch I tried copying two of the plaques from Vlindrel Hall, noticing that two of them are at 90 degrees from one another. However, in the new space, the 90/270 degree bug affected both of the copies. So, I wonder how Bethesda got the one in Vlindrel Hall to work properly?

Put them one degree off the 90/270 rotation. I have heard that works. Its when they are 90.0000 or 270.0000 when they have issues.

Yeah, I found that worked with bookcases at 0 degrees, so it's worth a try. At this point, I've come up with an alternative: added the shield plaque doohickey to a single weapon plaque. Adds some visual variety.

its a good idea as a general rule of thumb to completely turn off angle snap when doing your activation triggers.

anytime you have an activation trigger on a square angle (0,90, 180, etc) it screws up badly.

it is actually better to have angles at completely random float values (94.051 degrees for example). why? i dont know. but it usually works
