Weapons, Attire, Customization?

Post » Wed Aug 08, 2012 1:38 pm

So from what i can tell Dishonored seems to have a very intriguing storyline to keep you driven through out the game, and the overall design seems pretty original. Definitely interested in checking it out... but i was wondering, i found a total of about 4 different weapons... is this all? are there not different kinds of blades, crossbows, etc? and are you able to attach beneficial attire to your character? i generally thrive on customization when it comes to gaming, so the growth of the character through weapons and accessories is a catch for me. Any awesome steampunk themed gear to gain through out the game? maybe something to go along with Corvo's mask or something related to the design of the 'Tallboys'?

Nope sorry bud. You can upgrade each weapon and there is an upgraded blade that you can put on your sword but that's about it. There's also different types of ammunition as well. There doesn't appear to be the option to change your attire or add ons to your mask either. This is a game with some RPG elements and those appear with which powers/ abilities you take and how much you want to upgrade them, but theres no this armor increases your damage resistance or these boots make you walk more quietly.

This is a first person game, so all in all you wouldn't really get to see your new attire even if it was in the game. Lastly as a fellow forum member, StrifeCross said theres no need for a lot of different types of weapons if they have the same function, like having a crossbow and a silenced sniper rifle, silly example I know but I can't think anything better at the moment. Hope I answered your question and didn't come off as sounding rude.

There are accessories in the form of bone charms (feel like I should take on a nickname, Mr. Bone) that offer minor buffs for various abilities that otherwise aren't quantified such as faster swimming speed, longer duration for effects of powers and improved fencing ability. You find or buy statues that give you more slots where you can equip bone charms. Sarkayel (I'm really sorry if I'm misspelling your name again), a developer, has said you start with 3 slots and I did a Google Translate for a French article that said there'd be 10 total slots. That detail hasn't popped up elsewhere, so take that with a grain of salt.

Your attire might change according to circumstance. I don't have anything to back that up except my gut feeling. When you first start the game, you'll be a bodyguard so your clothing (which will really just be the wrists or maybe a little bit more of the arm showing) should be more regal or professional looking to start. Your gloves are brown later on, and I wouldn't be surprised if you look different for the masquerade ball. I just wouldn't count on these things, and even if they occur it will likely not be in our control.

Between the powers though along with blueprints that you find to upgrade your sword, crossbow, gun, grenades, and dagger (that might get replaced---two melee weapons seem superfluous) and the bone charms---there will be enough room I think to make your own Corvo.

So thats what the blueprints are for, should've realized it far earlier but I had just figured after a certain point Piero would say Oh by the way I can upgrade your sword for you or something similar.

Well it might not be cut and dry. I swear I read somewhere about crafting. Piero could easily do that, but I think you might find materials for him to use? It seems like that'd be counterintuitive though to what's otherwise a pared down system that focuses on function over flash or frills. I have to be wrong about that aspect but it keeps popping up as a tangential association when I think of upgrades. Need a mind wipe or someone to confirm whether I've imagined that or I'm not manufacturing info from nowhere.

Oh this again...no there probably aren't more weapons into the game because you don't need more. The ones you have serve a lot of purposes including the fact they have different ammunitions and upgrades.

I think the weapon set is well balanced. If you use your imagination and the other skills available, you wont need numerous upgrades.

For me it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility for Piero to offer possible upgrades to your mask. But for me it isn't that important.

I don't think the mask has any upgrades. Its functions are to prevent you from getting the plague, the scope and head armor. That's it.

Corvo's outfit is really cool, so for once I don't feel any compulsion to tweak his appearance.

What I really want is for him to pose for a spread in GQ.

Is it just me or those hoods don't exist in real life. Like the AC hoods. I don't know how they make them to stay up like that. The coat is great, I wear one almost everyday so I am a fan of that.

well that sums it up, i dont think it's too much of a let down. It still seems like a pretty cool game and i plan on playing it at some point for sure. It kind of seems like a steampunk Assassin's Creed to be honest, but im basing this assumption off of little knowledge of the game.

Corvo: Taking headshots and passin em out to modeling agencies.

I'm patenting this spin-off right now in front of everyone. If Arkane makes this game and Bethesda publishes, I should be compensated.

I've seen Titanic, but extrapolating one scene from that movie? Give me a break and my gender the benefit of the doubt lol. Still, that old woman wasted Bill Paxton's time. I've never wanted to punch an octogenarian (older probably but I don't know the derivation of the word offhand to reflect that) in the face before. Throw a diamond the size of a brick over the side of a ship. The real ending of that movie was Paxton saw that, flipped out, ran out of the piloting room (I'm super up on my nautical parlance :P) and threw her into the water afterwards. "If you find Jack, great. But you better get me that necklace or you're chum, lady."

Edit: Ah hell. I remember now. It took me a moment. I stand by everything else I said.

Don't cry. CB I blame you for this one.

Also I didn't get an answer to my hood question you guys. My hoods are weird in the sense that they might be too big and they look like this: http://www.blackheart.com/store/images/locknkey.jpg
With a ton of room and just feel baggy) if that makes any sense. Corvo's hood is great but my coat is better!
