Weapons Selection For Fallout 3/Fallout NV?

Here is a copy of an email/letter I sent to the Bethesda folks a few days back, about the weapons selection in Fallout 3 and subsequent/upcoming Fallout games. Do you folks agree?

Hello,

I am a great fan of the Fallout 3 game, and indeed the entire Fallout series (particularly Fallout 2). However, I believe the game suffered from a somewhat unrealistic portrayal of various weapons, most notably the Chinese Assault Rifle, which was clearly some variant of their Type 56 AK clone, in that it had a 24 round magazine while the real weapon was issued with a standard 30 round magazine. I do not know of any nation nor any company/agency/etc that ever produced a 24 round magazine for the AK-47 or any variant thereof. Likewise with the standard "Assault rifle" (obviously an HK variant of some sort) the problem with the 24 round magazine remains.

I have been shooting since I was about 10 years old and have dozens of different weapons from many different nations, so I consider myself something of an authority when it comes to issues concerning weaponry. One thing I also found odd about Fallout 3 was the general lack of old/surplus/retired weapons, such as was seen in Fallout Tactics Brotherhood of Steel with the common availability of historically mass produced weapons such as the M1 Garand, M-16, AK-47, UZI, and other well-known and widely beloved weapons.

I believe the next Fallout game could benefit from the inclusion of weapons that most Americans are familiar with, real weapons, such as the AK-47, AK-74, SKS, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, M-16, HK MP5, HK G3, M-14, M1A, and various other real modern weapons that would likely be found in gun stores, police armories, or government warehouses in the aftermath of a catastrophic civilization ending event. For instance there were literally tens of millions of SKS carbines manufactured, along with over six million M1 Garands and a similar number of M1 Carbines, yet none of these weapons are encountered in the game despite their present widespread availability throughout the United States (and to a lesser extent Canada).

I would be more than happy and willing to give advice/consultation on matters of weaponry, for the upcoming installment of the Fallout series and for any future Fallout games. As a fan of the series I believe it would make the game/s more enjoyable to have realistic and familiar weapons, alongside the new and more futuristic weapons.

Assuming that they would want to include such weapons in the game but that it is probably too late for them to put those weapons into the game with the game so close to the release date, could mods be made to incorporate those weapons into the game?

I would really enjoy seeing the M1 Garand and the SKS in Fallout New Vegas.

Yes, the game is finished now, nothing more will be added to it. If you want to talk about weapons in FNV in general there is already an open topic http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1116454-weapons-mods-and-ammo-mega-thread-3/
