[REQ] Wear Robes Under Armor

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 3:11 am

I find it odd that robes or other similar clothing can't be worn under a set of armor.

As an example, I'd like to wear my ArchMages robes underneath a set of Steel Armor. Granted I'd get the benefits of both the robes and the armor, but to me it makes sense to be able to wear robes underneath a set of armor.

How do you wear armor over a robe? A robe over armor is another story.

It shouldn't be an issue, people wear shirts/pants under armor. The robes shouldn't be too different.

If you want to make models for every clothing item and what it looks like under each type of armor, be my guest.

Morrowind only had the option to wear cloths under armor because the cloths were flat and right against your body so armor had nothing to worry about. In terms of Oblivion and Skyrim, clothing and robes are more detailed and would clip through parts of the armor.

I'm much more annoyed by the fact that you can only wear one ring at a time.

Set it so the robes/shirt/whatever is hidden (it's model) but the effects are still present, so only the outer armor shows on the model

Magic? We arn't going for total realism. If I have a robe/shirt with good stats I should be able to wear it under the armor.

Something like Arthas perhaps? Sorry for the warcraft reference. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4rjTYHD330

At least we can wear hoods independently of robes, but I'd also like to see capes and robes with armor.

Err... That's a cape, not a robe.

You can't actually wear a robe under armor. It wouldn't work at all, especially for the legs. It's simply impossible.

Wearing robes over armor is another story altogether, of course.

In order to do that, you would have to remove the slot flag for the clothing. And IIRC there is no way to do that dynamically via scripting.

Is it possible to mod the game to wear clothes over armor? I'm not sure if it was done in Oblivion, not that I know of, but new game may mean new possibilities. I'd love to know, thanks.

Wearing a robe over armor, would both be easier to implement in a mod (I think), and would also have a very good realism factor. Wearing a robe over armor could actually be extremely practical in real life, you don't need to be remotely educated in real life warfare to even know why. It conceals openings or parts where the armor isn't as protective, makes vital organs harder to pin point, conceals possibly damaged weakened spots in armor, keeps you warm in a colder environment (SKYRIM especially), and it slightly conceals your movements.

I think almost everyone would agree robes over armor as an option would be great for Skyrim... But... Unless this is a typo or something why UNDER armor? Unless you want another enchantment slot or something. Clothes under armor particularly armor with exposed skin, I could understand though.

I was envisioning something like this,

Robes over armor can work as well, frankly I don't care. I just want to be able to use both.
