Weathered 10mm Pistol With laser sight Error

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:31 am

I added a laser sight to my Weathered 10mm Pistol and it caused a error. When I take out my gun a big red block with a white exclamation appears on me. It blind's my First person mode and my gun disappears.

Huh! Some one else just had this problem and it's on the forums but with no help. From the sound of it, could it be a particle system error? For more help, could you tell me if you, at the time of the image was taken, have the (dx9d9.dll) "fix"? I'm not saying download it, I'm wondering.

It's entirely possible the pre-order items either weren't meant to modded (like uniques), or they just forgot to assign a texture/mesh for the modified version.

The big red exclamation means a missing texture/mesh.

Since DX9 involves textures(I think), could that "fix" have caused this?

No idea, I highly doubt it though. You see this pretty often installing mods in FO3 if you screw up the install, get a partially corrupt download or the mod maker gets a file path wrong.

The most likely answer is that it was not intended that weapon mods be used on it, as it is a unique (as far as I am aware).

But the fix I was speaking of is not a normal mod, but a .dll.

Yeah it tricks the game into running on an earlier version of DirectX. This is almost certainly some kind of file or pathing error, or unintended use.

The exclamation point means the .nif (mesh) is missing.
When the texture or normal map is missing, you either get hot pink items, or items that look like the ground you are walking on, and the colors shift when you move it.

That is an easy fix with the GECK.

I was the one that posted earlier with the silencer mod added did pretty much the same thing and i already ran through all the fixes i could think of. It didn't just do the gamma thing to mine though it somehow changed the weapon mod values it instantly kills anything i aim at.

Until Obsidian or Bethesda fix this, you can use a mod to work around it: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34794

I'm on console, so unfortunately I've got to wait for them to fix it. :/

It doesn't sound like a massive thing to fix so probably next patch. Until then I'll just shelve the gun. I'll get to enjoy it again next game.
