Weekly Burning of King Olaf?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 3:40 am

After you complete the Bard's College quest (SPOILER), Viamo says that the burning of the King will now be a weekly event.

Is it actually a weekly event? Which day? Or does it just happen that one time?

Please do not post Spoilers in General.

People come to General to learn about the game without learning about what happens in the game. If they want to know about what happens, that is what the Cheats, Hints and Spoilers section is for.

Do not use quest details or location specific details related to quests/puzzles/NPCs in your posts in this section. General is for discussing gameplay and mechanics. General topics about the the game include but are not limited to races, items and their use, magic, enchanting, skills, character builds, criticism, praise, funny random things that happen, places from an esthetic standpoint and and other general topics.

Use the Spoilers Section if you have to post quest details or other spoilers or a thread about the same. This also includes console commands, and character build exploits.

I will move this now.

I have seen the odd cook hanging out in that courtyard but never saw any burning King Olaf...just the head bard with his always equipped torch! I guess he's ready for London 2012.

So it isn't supposed to be a weekly event like the dialogue says? Just thought it would be kind of cool to stop by and see if I happened to be in town on that day of the week. It would make the world a little richer, and having the main bard mention weekly festivals in the dialogue but them never occuring just makes it look broken.

As with any resolution (such as New Year's), the hype dies down on day two and people revert to their old ways.

Honestly though, I think gamesas kinda rushed the whole Bards stuff before release. It never really felt quite fleshed out, IMO.

I've only seen it once, right after completing the quest to get the festival reinstated.

BTW, the bard's college and Elisif are wrong when they paint Olaf One-Eye as a liar. He really did capture a dragon in stormreach. But I guess they need to solidify the idea that Solitude is the rightful seat of Skyrim. Frauds.

I thought the whole bard thing was pretty terrible, you can't even play the instruments!

It was definitely rushed. I'm not sure what they could have done with it, but it ended up being pretty lame.

svcks that it isn't a weekly festival though. It just would have been nice to know there was a party going on in Solitude as I'm wandering the outskirts of Windhelm on some bleak and cold Loredas evening...

That's why I don't join up with the bards. They're nothing but frauds. They preach like they know history, but in reality they're nothing but gossipers, and liars.

I don't know, BSing the tale of One-eye and Numinex with Viarmo was rather fun, as if we were telling an inside joke to the court.

The best part of the bard's college quest is the modified comments from guards: "what is it, bard?". yeah, I'm a bard alright - wearing full set of ebony plate with the mace of molag bal hanging at my side. I'd like the option to reply " can I use your noggin' as a drum?"

They didn't say he was wrong. They are calling him out on his [censored]. Yeah he captured one, but he exaggerated the event and made it like it was some epic battle that should etch his name in history and grant him higher status among men.

Yeah, it would be cool if we could play certain songs to give us buffs or the enemies debuffs and/or play for cash in the Taverns. :P

Yep. And from what I recall there is enough of the original text to show that Olaf's an ass...unless the original text was false as well as the few lines we added.

I know right! You would think that in the bard's college, they would teach you how to be a bard.. not to be an adventurer. They should have just called it the Adventurer's college.. at least then the name wouldn't have been a lie.

Yeah. That's why I don't particularly like the bards collage for that reason alone. Also you are force to encourage to lie and to deceive just so that the festival can go on. Ridiculous!

Like others have posted, the Bard's college doesn't deny that he captured the dragon. They're saying that he made up the majority of the rest of the story. I believe that he actually made a deal of some sorts with the dragon to capture it in order to make himself appear more powerful.

So, Olaf claimed to have brought the dragon in through a hard fought battle, but he just made a deal with the dragon for it's capture in order to make himself appear more powerful.

A weekly event... these bards have too little imagination. At least Talsgar travels the land and kills things. Also, the thought of even one more recitation by Viarmo makes me want to go deaf.
