Well known landmarks that you have visited

Post » Sat Jul 21, 2012 2:28 pm

I have been to some that are well known around parts California and some that not many may know outside of California but I have been to ones you may know: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_66, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoover_Dam, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinatown,_San_Francisco

I have been to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_International_Airport but not inside, it was just a connecting flight.

Also recently, Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples, the Twin Towers in KL and S-21.

Landmarks? Mostly the ones in California whilst driving around on vacations. Parks, cities, historical, bridges, mts and forestland.
Some small local type ones here and there off of 80 when driving across the country once, couldn't tell you the names of them it was years ago.
Grand Canyon and a few others in the states of MA, OR, WA, NV and AZ.

But the big, well known "historical" US landmarks like Washington Monument or other countries like the Pyramids or something? Nope. No real desire to, either.

I don't travel much, even though I want to. Mostly just notable California landmarks, and what I was able to see when I went to New York.

I've been to: Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Hollywood Sign, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, World Trade Center (I went to NY in August 2001).

*raises hand* I've been to Cradle Mountain and Mount Wellington. Also went to Port Arthur about two weeks ago, which was more fun than I thought it would be.

Other than that I've been to the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ming_Dynasty_Tombs, Forbidden City and a section of the Great Wall. And a bunch of lesser known landmarks around China. My father is a sinophile so we go to China a lot. Other places, not so much. :(

Probably not many, all things considered. Hadrian's Wall, Oxford and Cambridge universities, Edinburgh Castle, various other castles and cathedrals... erm... oh, and those salt things in Turkey, whatever they're called. In spite of how many years I worked in London, I think about the most well-known place I visited was a Brick Lane curry house! (Edit: well, okay, random places like St. Paul's, Hyde Park, leering at Buckingham Palace etc but y'know.)

First and foremost, Lackland AFB, Texas, where millions of people have become airmen.

Then, all the usual places in NYC and Washington DC. The Alamo. Oriole Park at Camden Yards (think it's a 'landmark' for its design, mainly the warehouse in right field), the Flight 93 memorial in PA...Gettysburg..

The http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/30/video-the-history-behind-detroits-monster-roadside-uniroyal-ti/ just outside of Detroit.
Niagara Falls
The "gateway to the west" Arch in St. Louis, MO.
The Mackinaw Bridge that connects the lower and upper peninsula of the State of Michigan. Because Michigan is shaped like a mitten, when you cross over that bridge it's like flipping off the rest of the world with the middle finger, you see.
And those who live in the upper peninsula are known as "Yoopers", as in UP, and those of us who live below the bridge [yours truly] are "Trolls".

Hmm. That's about it. I don't get around too much.

[edit] The Indianapolis 500 race track.

Niagara Falls
Old Fort Niagara
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Museum of the Confederacy
Arlington National Cemetery
The Smithsonian
The Vietnam Memorial
National Mall
Toronto Zoo
Colonial Williamsburg
Washington Monument (it was surrounded by people playing catch)

I haven't! I know that whichever day I might visit, it'd be raining, which has rather put me off.

Oh boy.

I have seen most everything west of the Mississippi and I spent a week in Washington DC with my dad when I was 10 (30 years ago  ).

There are too many for my drunk ass to try and list.
