Well this really svcks...

So I was at Gamestop earlier today and they had the Bioshock Ultimate Rapture Edition on sale. Seeing as how I've never played any of the DLC's before and I remember the multiplayer on Bioshock 2 being kind of fun, I decided to get it. So I got home installed the DLC and played single player for awhile but when I tried to go into multiplayer I got a message saying that I didn't have the right privileges to access multiplayer.

I had no idea what was going on, I checked to make sure I wasn't signed into a non-Xbox Live profile and after doing some searching online, found out that a Gold Membership is required to play online. So now I have to either go out and get a $25 card or not even do multiplayer at all, which was one of the reasons I bought the damn game. This is [censored] and now I'm definitely not going to get an Xbox One.

Having a Gold Membership to play mutiplayer has always been Xbox 360's shtick and it's not any better of PS3 but there I believe you can go online for free as for the PS4, I think you need a PSN and a Playsation Plus account but I think they're leaving it to the developers to decide if their games will be free mutiplayer or not...I guess I'll find out when I get one.

The Xbox 360 has been like this since day one (that's almost 10 years) So you have no one to blame except yourself
Especially since I'm pretty sure the game will say something like this on the back "Gold account needed for multiplayer features"

It's dumb, I know. (I have spent a lot of money over the years on Gold.) But it shouldn't have come as a surprise.

If you buy 3 months at once, it's usually cheaper. Although not all stores have that offer.
Once the new Xbox is out, the price will probably drop even more.

As I recall, you don't need anything to play online on PS3. I used to have Bioshock 2 on PS3 but I beat single player and my internet was horrible so I just traded it in.

how long have you had an Xbox?

I mean, the whole needing gold thing is quite well known, if you've had it for awhile I am completely shocked you did not know this?

Anyways, I believe the PS4 is going to require a subscription to PSN to play online anyways, so not buying the Xbox One is no better of a choice than not buying a PS4...

I sure hope your not trying to just start a console war..

I've found out recently there some decent perks for having a Gold Membership---"Free Games". Every so often XBLA will have a random game you can download for free, I've gotten Rainbow Six Vegas (I like this game but Vegas 2 was better) and Halo 3.

I got an Xbox around a year or so after they came out as a Christmas present, didn't have anything close to internet then and never did any multiplayer. I was staying at my grandma and grandpa's around a year or two ago and got a Gold membership so I could hang out with my friends and play Minecraft, I never knew it was required to play online.

To be fair, you aren't missing much, it's pretty much 'CoD: Bioshock' in the multiplayer. Unless that's what you're hoping for, you aren't missing anything.
