What amount of damage do you consider overpowered?

Post » Tue Jul 31, 2012 9:00 am

Title says all really. I know the definition of "overpowered" varies with players what I would like to hear what others think. I do not like making my characters overpowered, as it really makes the game boring fast. I have been using this Daedric sword for a long time, and I once had the damage at 178 due to having some enchanted items worn to fortify my one-handed. I decided to take it down a notch by wearing only the necklace, making it only 136 damage now. So now I just want to hear what others think is overpowered.

I generally think if my weapons are doing over 200 damage that's pretty OP. But I usually play on adept so.

I try and keep my weapons in the 130-150 range, anything beyond that seems too over powered to me.

I also play on adept. I am trying not to become overpowered so that I don't have to increase the difficulty, as there are still enemies that are good in a fight.

That's what I was thinking, but I just recently improved my Daedric sword to 143 damage. I know it really doesn't seem like much of a change from it's previous 136 damage, but I am trying to not be overpowered. Trying to decide whether to keep it at 136 or just have it at 143.

I like doing a ton of damage on my main 2h warrior, who has his legendary daedric hammer. I really find myself feeling overpowered when enemy attacks don't do anything to my health.

For me it's any single weapon doing over 500 damage while playing Master Difficulty. I want to know I can 1 hit a lousy bandit or squishy mage, since that's the kind of character I want to feel like. While any damage over that means killing dragons and boss level creatures way too easily, which breaks the immersion and ruins the game for me. My swords currently do 437 damage a piece and if I'm not careful while playing on Master difficulty a Briarheart or other boss level creature can easily take me down even with an armor rating over 567 (depends on what I'm wearing) and a magic resistance of 85%.

I think overpoweredness is more related to armour and resistances than damage - it's cool to be one or two shotting enemies with your legendary greatsword of cleaving or perfect stealth arrow whatever, but when they can't do a thing in return it's just boring. I downgraded my armour from upgraded, enchanted glass to bogstandard elven when I tanked an Elder Dragon's damage and killed it easily. What i do hate dying to is those stupid necromancers spamming blizzard. Can't dodge it because it's huge, can't heal it off because it hurts like hell, coming from a mage who should be using undead minions to fight me. Then nothing is too overpowered for these guys.

I figure if I've ground my way to high level and become a master smith, master enchanter and a master swordsman then nothing is overpowered.

I think the trade off is there low defense though, but I wish there was a dodge mechanic for quick characters.

On master, around 200 is where most things don't stand a chance with One-handed weapons. Fortunately, it's pretty hard to get that high without smithing perks.

Two handed weapons I feel can manage 300 or even more, because their nature necessitates nearly instant death of the target.

Most of the "OP" comes from Armor though. It's fine to kill things in two or three hits, what's not fine, is killing things in two or three hits, while you can survive 500 hits, and then immediately regenerate your health back with your wolverine-like healing abilities. I really think the Damage reduction cap should have been more like 50% for Light armor, and 66% for Heavy Armor. (Or, Double durability for Light, and Triple for Heavy)

My armour rating is 330ish, my bow damage with absorb health is 105, my sword is 60ish. My bow feels right because of time to aim but the sword is lower because I can swing quickly. I hate a daedric sword that did 80 damage and I hated it. Any higher and there would be no sword fight. Just bam and it's dead. Spells it's different, I like 90 damage.

Personally what made me OP was my armor. Barely anything can dent me. Even on expert I've only died once and it was to shock which I have no resistance to...I think.

Title says all really. I know the definition of "overpowered" varies with players what I would like to hear what others think.

It does not vary with Players (as I play both weak and strong characters) it depends on the character for me. Some of my characters are uber, they walk into a dungeon and basically sneeze and all enemies are dead. Some of my characters are "balanced" with the game in that enemies are a challenge and sometimes I die, more often I prevail. I have other characters that are weak and have to use every tactic and advantage of the terrain and situation they can, and even then, they take many attempts to be successful.

It all depends on what I want to play really. This game lets me build any type of character I want to.

Any one handed weapon that clocks in over 30 and any two handed weapon that clocks in over 60-70. That being said, I play on apprentice, and rarely adept.
