What appointment invisibility and muffle spells have?

One more confusion with a brilliant skyrim magic. Yep, it's all about the spells on top. They does not work. Really. It does no matter what armor you're wearing (or no armor at all). You cast one spell to move more quietly and then another to become invisible. But your enemies doesn't feel a difference, they still see you and try to slash you.
Maybe i don't understand something in an ingenious plan of our beloved developers.

Do you activate both spells the second an enemy detects you? If so, you need to run away for for a short distance and go into sneak mode.

Are you in sneak mode or are you just running around?

I guess it depends what level your sneak is at.

Why should i sneak if i'm invisible? I'm more than invisible, i'm quiet as a grave. With this muffle spell i hope.
