What Are Deathhounds and Gargoyles?

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 10:29 pm

So...what exactly are they? Some sort of Daedra? They give absolutely NO explanation of what these things are, or where they come from. They don't appear to be from the Soul Cairn...are they associated with Molag Bal?

Death Hounds are either Arena's Hellhounds renamed or are an Undead Hound (Since Hellhounds are Daedra).

Gargoyles were from Daggerfall and they weren't Daedra nor Undead in that one.. They were mainly just creatures with not much lore about them... So my bet is Gargoyles are rly just creatures created by mages/vampires to guard places.

So...you're saying that gargoyles are something in between an atronach and a chimera?

That is my guess.. Thing is, Gargoyles don't rly have much lore in TES world, last I check. So.. It is mainly just guesses and theories about them.

But that really brings up the question as to why they've only been seen in the employ of vampires. Perhaps Deathhounds are to dogs as Tamriel is to Coldharbour? Corrupted and twisted...

And gargoyles actually look kinda like Molag Bal. Maybe he got frisky with a daedroth?

Those gargoyles are weak, WEAK. I used my vampire lord power to summon one and it got owned big time by falmer. I mean, that thing seemed to fail to even cause any damage to anything.

Death Hounds could be special Dogs corrupted with Molag Bal's magic to serve the Vampires?

As for Gargoyles, still don't know about them. They aren't allied with Vampires in Daggerfall so... They prolly are created by some sort of powerful magic.

It says that Gargoyles are just beasts that have skin that looks like stone, thus being able to appear as statues. So the Gargoyles are just normal beasts.

The Gargoyle Sentinels can deal some good damage. The summoned one is pathetic. Falmers are deadly so not surprise...

They're actually decent in pairs. Although they have PATHETIC health, I don't personally care because I just summon a couple more. I find that they do well because they seem to be able to stun-lock enemies to a certain extent. Although, dremora or Wrathmen would have been more welcome.

I don't think the gargoyles just pretend to be statues, the castle has a workshop dedicated to carving them out of stone. Several of them come to like and attack you, I'm going to say they're actually stone statues that are animated with magicka or they develop inside the statues or something.

It's on the way to open the portal, there's several blocks of stone, half carved into gargoyles. Right around where she asks you to find a hidden lever, when you turn the candle stick to proceed.

I think I remember that, now. Huh...so I guess they're stone atronachs, then?

Except they can only be killed by mithril weapons. But, we don't hav mithril anything so lore fail on Bethesda's part.

Just wait until Dawnguard hits the PC. New mod! Gargoyles now have 420 Armor Rating (50% Physical Damage Reduction) and 30% Resist Magic!

Its said ingame (i dont remeber if it was a load screen or in a conversation or book) that gargoles are magical creatures, if that means that they were created with magic or are creatures that use magic naturally ^^ Who knows.

In all honesty Beth took out many things like that. Ghosts and Wraiths in OB could only be killed with Silver, Daedric, or enchanted weapons but now you can behead them with any sword
