What are interesting character builds?

Post » Fri Sep 21, 2012 11:53 am

I've played through a variety of character builds during my time with Skyrim, but each one fills boring, under/overpowered, unrealistic within the lore, or simply like its been done too much before. Any ideas for an interesting character build with a bit of uniqueness?

I think it is just about impossible to make a characrer build unique, but if you want to have an interesting character I suggest you take up some heavy or semi-heavy roleplaying. It adds a lot to the game, and makes a character feel more unique despite not having a unique build.

Mods. Admittedly good, lengthy quest mods are still difficult to come by, but quite a few are in the works., and some are already around.

Skyrim is perhaps my favourite game of all time, but moving on. I am looking to play as a Breton Conjurer perhaps?

Try that and do some fun things like leveling smithing by only making jewelry or have your Breton Conjurer not know the pointy end of a sword, trips over his own shadow so sneaking is out of the question, can't even figure out how to notch a bow, but (s)he seems to be getting the hang of making lights and breathing under water with Alteration! The sky in Skyrim is really the limit with your imagination! Give us a follow up on how your Breton turns out! Cheers!

Decided upon a Breton assassin. I'll use dual daggers as my primary weapon. I'll level up Illusion enough to just get quiet casting. Then, I'll invest into conjuration as I can summon weapons whenever needed, such as a bow for sneaking, and also a sword for when sneaking isn't an option within the game. Use light armour as primary armour plus through in the usual thief type skills and I think I'm onto a winner.

theres a pretty awesome mod that adds a whole nother part to the conjuring tree....necromancy. i've always loved being a necromancer in the other games but psycotiks version is the most fleshed out as far as skill tree goes. i made a heavy armor wearing necro mancer who casts death bolts in left hand and swings a sword with his right while deathknights and hordes of skeletons pour around him.

what i really liked is because i was so diversified i was pretty weak from start to middle.....really had to struggle versus bosses which is what it should be. then later on when i became epic it felt really good like i had earned my epicness rather then just strolled into being epic with enchanting. just my 2 cents.

Try playing a commoner, bard, worker, etc. generally a non-combat-centered build. It's not action-packed, but it gives a new feel to the game. I highly recommend using mods if you have access to them, because I've seen a quite lot of them that boost the "commoner life".
I'm playing as a bard right now and it's deadly fun. He only has access to "instrument weapons", which all have pretty low stats. He only wears clothes, but uses some unarmored boost things/skills, so he's pretty much safe. Though he rarely travels by foot, since, let's face it, would a commoner walk from hold to hold, unprotected? Given he/she has the money for transport.
Anyway, I suggest you to playing a common non-fighter.

If you're on PC, there are infinity of options to add variety to the gameplay and/or to roleplay. I play a Spellsword that is an Alteration specialist, and who just loves to teleport behind enemies and slay them, or that uses Mark/Recall (10 slots) and Fly exclusively for displacement, and that stores his stuff in a spatial rift with 7 chests, which he could access any of them anytime with another spell...possibilities are just endless.

This is the most unique character build I have come across lately.

theskyrimblog.ning.com/group/character-building/forum/topics/character-build-the-histmaster

Very cool build, I haven't tried it yet, but I asbolutely love the idea.

Right now I am playing a sneaky wood elf destruction mage who uses pickpocketing to place poisons on enemies to weaken them up. falling back on a poisoned dagger when magicka runs out.

An unarmored archer hunter/thief kind of build is my favorite build to do. I don't bother with caring about what perk is best beforehand, though. It's an intense amount of fun, though. Try sneaking around just firing arrows at enemies and hoping they don't see you. It's even more fun when unarmored because you have to be sure everything is safe. It's extremely engrossing.

I would agree with some people here that not only will an interesting build make the game fresh but also a new perspective or different Roleplaying idea or even try roleplaying if you have not. I would also say incorporate more magic. At least illusion and conjuration.. funny things can happen

If you use illusion, you do not need any perks on the left side of the sneak tree. Well, silent roll may be nice, but you don't really need it.

Earlier today I was thinking about making a heavy armored tank like character, but instead of a strong melee weapon using a bow and a knife. Haven't actually tried it yet so I don't know how fun a build like that would be but I figure it's worth a try.

A fun but minimalist build that I have been playing with is a bum type build. The only two skills that I use are one handed (iron knife) and Archery (that wooden bow, can't remember what it's called) and only sparingly because the character mostly chooses to run from danger. I do level the character up but points go into magicka which I don't allow my character to use anyways and the two skills that I use I only allowed myself to take one perk each to give the character a small advantage. The only clothes he wears are beggars rags and I chose a Bosmer so for lore reasons he can't go just collecting plants for food he has to scavenge for meat or hunt for meat with the bow and what ever arrows he is lucky enough to find. The build is fun because even though I mainly try to outright avoid fights since he is not a fighter sometimes it just can't be avoided and I die pretty often.

Well if you like stealth there is the option to play a Shadowscale; sneak, illusion, alteration, blade, alchemy, light armor. The build is similar to a nightblade, but there is a lot more potential in the character when you look at the roleplaying aspect. Obviously the race would be argonian, but after that you can pretty well go anywhere with it. I have a shadowscale that I play, stalks-its-prey, who refers to itself with impersonal third person, genderless "its" and "this ones." He is pretty fun.

There are also classes like Druid (blunt, heavy armor, illusion, restoration, conjuration, alchemy) and Bard (sneak, speachcraft, illusion, enchantment, light armor, blade) which are pretty fun. I would always suggest coming up with a backstory and role play your character, it really makes it a lot more fun.
