What are some great low requirement PC games?

Post » Tue Sep 18, 2012 11:54 pm

AMD Athlon II X2 P320 processor clocked at 2.1Ghz
15.6" HD LCD display with 1366x768 resolution
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 with 256MB VRAM
4GB DDR3 Memory/RAM
500GB HDD/Storage

What are some good PC games that don't require a high system specification and, consequently, could run on this laptop? Would Torchlight 2 run, for example?

I'm sorry but, what is your criteria?

What types of games do you like, and do you have a limit to how "dated" the game can be?

I'd prefer the games to be around the same graphical fidelity of a PS2 (so last generation of games), but graphics don't matter too much so long as the game is good. As for genres, I really like a variety of games - from stealth to shooters and strategy games. But, in reference to my opening post, could I run Torchlight 2?

Could I run Torchlight 2? Also, I never really liked Fallout 1 or 2. Morrowind was good, but I've got Skyrim and Oblivion so fancy something different to The Elder Scrolls.

The Witcher 1? Really, I doubt I could run that. I own Mount & Blade, but it doesn't seem to agree with my computer or 64-bit Windows 7. Either way, I don't like the incredibly difficult combat.

Battlefield 3 and Witcher 2 :P

Ok seriously though, Hard Reset, if you like old school shooters, runs amazingly well on mid-range PC's.

Beyond Good and Evil, Farcry, Silent Hill 2-4, BloodRayne 1&2, Dark Messiah (maybe - high'ish system requirements to run smoothly), Thief 1-3, Doom 3 plus The Dark Mod (fantastic Thief style total conversion), Silent Hunter 3, Il2 1946, Call of Cthulhu: Dark corners of the Earth (but not if you're running Vista), Stalker, Amnesia the Dark Descent, Myst 1-5, Guild Wars, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall the Longest Journey, Syberia 1&2

A very big vote for Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

I think GTA San Andreas would run on that? It's a good value game.

MMORPG games, such as Guild Wars, generally aren't my thing and I own/have played a bunch of the games there. But, regardless, thanks so much for taking the time. Torchlight 2 looks awesome, but could I run it?

I've already played Age of Empires 3 on this machine. It is, or rather was since I am done with it and its War Chiefs expansion, awesome. But, seriously now, can I run Torchlight 2?

But, as I said, how well? I can run plenty of games, even Left 4 Dead, but I only want to play it if I can at least play it at a smooth 30fps on medium?

In a similar sitch myself, OP. I have a 2006 Gateway laptop (really stinks). Here are some games that help me pass the time:

M&B Warband
Civilization IV
Star Wars: Battlefront II
Killing Floor (on lowest settings it is playable, but truly horrendous to look at, lol)
Terraria
Morrowind
The Sims 2

If you need someone to multiplay any of these games with, lemme know :)

As an aside, I kind of wish I still had Battlefield 1942, or that there was a digital copy for sale somewhere. I wonder if GoG will ever get around to this one, probably not though.
