What are some of your favorite visuals in Skyrim?

Post » Sat Aug 04, 2012 8:56 am

I mean this question in the context of not just a static vista, but something that involves movement or transition.

I think my fav. is the dragon soul being absorbed into the Dragonborn. Everytime I see that I think.."Man, they got that dead right...sound, graphics, timing...it all works."

Seeing the soul trap into an enchanted weapon I think is pretty good too. Esp the sounds they use.

The day's progression, especially at sunset. The lighting and sky visuals are one of the best in gaming.

I think some of the waterfalls in Skyrim can look really beautiful. Snowstorms look great as well. Also borealis.

Climbing onto a mountain and seeing the mist near the top and the weather is suddenly changing from clear to heavy snowfall.

I like the soul absorption as well. I usually play in first person, but I almost always zoom out when I've killed a dragon, just to look.

And I guess I'm one of few people who actually like the kill cams - the decapitation, the arrow shot and the fire magic being my favorites. And the jump-on-dragon's-head one, too.

On my wishlist are animations for eating, going to bed and one little kiss at the end of the wedding ceremony. Well, a girl can dream...

The Borealis at night. Freaking wow. I've found myself just standing there looking up at the sky many many many times.

The weather effects are good....I must agree. I was in the Ragged Flagon and heard dripping water...then looked down and saw the drops landing in a puddle...it looked very realistic.

The lighting change from night to day or day to night. The Aroura's. I do like some of the kill-cam shot's.

One thing that could be cool is if they added an option for a 2nd person view during a kill scene cut shot. So if you are killing a bandit and then he dies you could change the view for the last 10 seconds and see it from the bandit's POV and see how your char looked when you were doing battle.

rolling mist in the mountains. The environment in this game coupled with the music can be very emotive at times.

Spoiler
Potema's spirit(not the skeleton) during the Wold Queen Awakened is perhaps my favorite.

I have to hand it to them. The shader guys did a great job. I do like the Borealus at night and the rain drops on the water.

I like the glowing mushrooms in Blackreach. And that huge golden light thing over the fort.

Ahhh yes, the glowing Dwemer cavern in Blackreach. I agree that is one of the best locations in the entire game. I remember I had a very hard time finding my way out of that place.
Do the Falmer draw somekind of power from the glowing vegetation?

This is gonna sound stupid but I like seeing the wildlife jump over rocks and stuff. It just looks so real.

That's not stupid at all! you're right! and the way the deer look back at you as they flee is amazing. The Fauna in the game adds so much in terms of immersive gameplay.

No not at all, 1st time I saw the ants crawling across a stump, I thought that was simplely amazing that they had even thought to put something like that in the game. I like watching the deer/elk graze and bear's fish, though I'm not sure they are fishing maybe fighting a mud crab I can't see in the water.

Yes, sunset and sunrise are two fantastic times. Just last night (my time) I was headed out of Markarth early in the morning (game time) to do a little step and fetch for the Greybeards and the sun was rising behind some clouds in front of me. I ended up stopping on a high perch to just watch it. Also, standing outside of Whiterun as the moon(s) rise on a clear night is crazy cool.

the icy effect that armor and weapons get once you go into the snowy regions
(Most noticable on dwarven armor)

THIS

And the Ritual Stone effect (which off topic seems to have been buffed/fixed in one patch or another - massive area of effect - Try it out!)
