Copy&Pasted from a similar thread: Every character I've ever played in the Elder Scrolls has been a stealth based archer, which I called the "Smuggler" class. Now I've started a "Cleric," in the D&D sense of the class. I've only put a few hours into him, but WOW this is FUN. I LOVE the mace/shield style combat, timing a shield bash to throw off an opponent's power attack. Fighting bosses (i.e. bandit chiefs) is REALLY intense when I have to retreat while channeling heal, only to re-engage after I'm healed up. I chose the race "Imperial" because I'm not a huge fan of the beast races (my last Rogue was Khajit, didn't really like it) and I didn't want Nord because I didn't want to have a vested interest in any of the politics of Skyrim (not to mention the starting stat bonuses of an Imperial line up perfectly with a Cleric), I also wanted to create a more interesting back story as to why the Cleric was crossing the border when he was captured (working on that now). If you're unfamiliar with the Cleric, scroll all the way to the bottom. Anyways, I'm babbling-- here's the details:

Name: Thoros (after the red priest in the series, "A Game of Thrones")
Race: Imperial
Class: Baldur's Gate style Cleric
Alignment: Lawful Good
Difficulty: Expert
Stone: Steed
Build: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#62698

Focus:
  • One-handed (maces)
  • Block
  • Heavy Armor
  • Restoration
  • Alteration
  • Alchemy
Restrictions:
  • NO Conjuration Magic, be it through staves, scrolls, or tomes.
  • NO Destruction Magic, a Cleric isn't a Mage.
  • NO Companions; they make the game too easy and get in the way.
  • NO Poisons, the Alchemy tree will be used for buff potions-- accidental poison creations will be destroyed.
  • NO Stealing! (unless either 100% necessary or it's from a bandit camp)
  • NO Over-using Fast Travel, attempting to only use the "cart" outside the town if the need arises
  • NO Buying crafting mats! I'm only using what I get via hunting/gathering/mining
  • NO Weapons other than maces; Clerics are banned from edged weapons  (I might not be able to stick with this, but I'm going to try)
Misc. Info:
  • Undead are the prime enemy: Roots them out when and where he can find them.
  • Restoration-- vs. Undead abilities are prioritized.
  • Prioritizes quests at temples.
  • Makes the Temples the first stop at each new city
  • Donates gold/items to beggars.
  • Will not complete blatantly evil quest lines
  • Avoids fights when possible, unless the target is a vampire, necromancer, bandit, or undead.
  • Attempts to eat 2x-3x per day, and sleep once every 24 hours approximately.
  • The Cleric will have access certain spells from the Illusion school, but will remain "un-perked"
For those of you unfamiliar with the D&D Style Cleric (I'm modeling him after the Baldur's Gate Cleric; as BG is the closest I ever got to D&D), here's a brief and simple description: A Cleric is a heavily armored, mace and shield wearing buff machine. The Cleric has access to healing abilities, and can "Turn Undead" and whoop the [censored] out of those zombies. Clerics fight for their chosen Deity (haven't picked one yet), and stay true to their alignment (lawful good, in my case). Also, Clerics do not used edged weapons-- only maces. As I'll be using all three resources (health, stamina, magic) I'm keeping to a formula for the time being-- for every 3 points I place into health and 3 points into Stamina, I'll place one point into Magic. I'll readjust as I see fit.

Main is a soon to be level 40 rogue / archer.

My new character is a Cleric based class that is going to solely use mace and shield alongside healing companions. Only reason I made this class is due to this mod, http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2384 pretty wicked screenshots, armor is very well done

Looks like a very cool, well-planned character. I don't like maces for warriors, but on a DnD cleric they feel right. Nothing like caving some undead's skull in. Only svcky thing is having to sheathe the mace and shield to cast spells.

I'm playing a Redguard ranger who is making his way through skyrim, trying to survive and make a living. I'm level 42 and my back story is that my char spent a lot of his younger years living in the forests of Valenwood, so he has adopted their use of the bow, tribal face paint and natural armour, like fur, leather etc. He uses no magic, no enchantments.

I also have a dual wielding axe Orc called Genghis demon eater (lol) he is level 30 and only uses smithing, heavy armour and one handed. He's basically a one man wrecking ball, a great Prince hell bent on claiming land for his people and sensing civil unrest in Skyrim, decides this is the place to start.

I know you're limiting your self solely to maces, even so the mace perks are useless. Dragons have 0 armor rating, and bandits have the same old crappy armor they had at level 1, they just get more health. Save yourself 3 perks in the mace perks. Also the last 1h perk is pretty useless, the backwards power attack is the most awkward one to do and usually misses.

Restoration dual cast isn't really needed either, it doesn't affect the undead spells and the heal spells are usually sufficient.

You might want to go for the alteration perk 'stability', then paralyse/flesh spells will get +50% duration. The heavy armor perk conditioning is also so useful, heavy armor really drains the stamina.

Feel free to completely ignore my suggestions ha, if it's needed for your playstyle. Just thought I'd give a little bit of advice .

Just finished the main quest on my first character.

An aging (half blind) former Nord Warrior, turned thief and murderer (of Elves, Imperials, and their filthy legion) Daedra worshipper and Vigilants of Stendarr hunter. Would've been more enjoyable with better writing, companions, and quests, but the exploration and art style were fair enough to keep me going to the end.

Perks: loaded on Archery (go figure...on a blind guy no less.) loaded on smithing. loaded on one handed. Partially loaded on heavy and light armor.

Gear: Ebony Mail (may Lydia rest in pieces), Dual daedric Swords (absorb health ench), daeadric bow + arrows (absorb health Ench.) Sanguine Rose

Gulds: Thieve's Guild, Mage's Guild (reluctently joined only to finish Forbidden Legend...will not finish this questline)

Longterm plans: Retire and live quietly in Riften, putting behind him his evil, sadistic and murderous ways.

Hobbies: Alchemy and Enchanting.

Good advice, I'll likely be taking most of it. I wasn't too sure about the mace specialty, armor reduction usually sounds better than it actually is in video games. I'll probably mess around with some perks, since I'm lucky on the PC and can re-allocate as I see fit :)

Altmer vampire mage, makes strong use of the necromage link.
  • Destruction, main direct damage.
  • Conjuration, for necromancy.
  • Restoration, for the necromage perk, repelling undead, healing and healing allies.
  • Alteration, for the flesh spells as I don't use armor and paralyse.
  • Illusion, for manipulation and boosting allies power.
  • Enchanting (not 100% spell reduction) for reducing the spell costs. Also boosting magicka, fire resistance and stamina regeneration rate to help in the daytime.
  • Atronach stone, for spell absorption. Also the atronach perk in the alteration school.
  • Light use of sneaking, without any sneak perks. Vamps have a natural +25% boost, and I use muffled shoes, muffle spell and invisibility spell.
Although vampires have negative connotations, I generally do good for the people of skyrim. Only attacks if attacked first, or against obvious enemies such as bandits.

Maggot Sathren, level 22 Dunmer. Married to Moth gro-bagol.

Master of the Thieves Guild, Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, specializes in one-handed weapons and destruction spells that involve fire.

I've decided to fast travel less. I plan to finish Meridia's quest soon. Current companion is Erik the Slayer.

Yeah but with hotkeys it's no problem at all. I hit 3, 3 as fast as I can and I'm dual casting a resto heal, then 1, 2 as fast as I can and I'm immediately re-equipped with mace and shield. It's practically simultaneous.

I'm currently playing a hybrid of assassin/mage (no, not like the nightblade). Currently level 18 with high enough sneak skill that now I feel that my character's ready to add in a little mage skills. Probably going for conjuration and illusion for bound bow/soul trap and calm/invisibility/muffle, etc. I feel like illusion will help my character more in face-to-face combat, I might add some alteration for detect life but I heard there's a shout for that.. So yeah, this character is currently in Winterhold (after spending so much time in Riften polishing my sneaky skills with the Thieves Guild, now training hard to earn those spells. :)

Currently putting time into an Orc warrior. Currently level 21, so he's really just getting started. He's worked on Smithing, but only perked up to Orc and Arcane, since he won't be using anything other than Orc gear and weapons. Smithing is only for improving what he and his follower has and selling what he doesn't need. Only other skills he's perked is One-Handed and Heavy Armor. He dual-wields war axes, and now has two of the Orcish variety. Also has found a set of Orc gauntlets and an enchanted set of Orc boots, so that's mixed with his steel armor and helm. Once properly decked out in a full set of Orcish armor, he'll be joining the Imperial army.
