What "class" did you first choose in Skyrim?

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 12:58 am

I picked to be a heavy-armored shield and axe warrior type of person. I found out, while playing later on, that using only melee weapons isn't very wise in a fight with a dragon.

What did you first choose to be?

Pure archer. Quite pleased with the decision.

Dragon fights are... interesting. :) Not exactly an archer's strong suit, in my opinion. Perfectly doable, but heavy use of the terrain as cover is required.

Also a battlemage, but the longer I play, the more I tend to use the warrior skills :P I started out as a pure mage, using mainly destruction with conjur/resto support, but that turned out to be a rather bad decision, and while using the sword constantly, my skill automatically raised rather fast. Now I crafted myself a good set of dragonplate armor and a daedric sword and the casterpart is reduced to summon and heal, most of the time. When I need range, I'll cast fireballs instead of using a bow, poor destruction school :(

First class was "Warrior" (1h mace and shield + heavy armor) But now I'm playing on pure mage. Also have a archer. :spotted owl:

Not really a 'battlemage' but a Mage who can handle a one handed sword. Being a mage is quite hard in this game during the early levels. Once I got passed about level 16 it was a lot easier and a few charged fireballs could get rid of most things but I remember getting my ass handed to me by like...snow wolves early on.

Went with one-handed with sword as my main. Throw in some restoration and a bow, and that's about it for me. Dark Elf, currently level 28.

Utility character. Primarily one handed sword and shield, light armor, sneak, archery. I had been concerned about survivability for such a character but it's been surprisingly effective.

I chose the "Custom" class

Primary dual wielding warrior with lockpick skills and smithing with a touch of destruction magic.

I put 11 hours into a wood elf over the past few days. It took me that long to figure out that it is completely worthless compared to any other race. When choosing the class I assumed I would be able to have a permanent pet or something. So, instead I have this awesome skill I can use one time per day, which 'allows an animal to fight for you for 60 seconds.' The animal doesn't even follow you, SO WHAT IS IT GOING TO FIGHT? It is absolute crap. Orc racial power is 100% more damage and 50% less damage taken for a minute USING ALL WEAPON/MAGIC TYPES. With the wood elf power I can buy myself a minute to heal and stare at a bear doing nothing for a minute.

What a joke. Is this some sort of 'uber lore' troll from Besthrddddda? Seriously, why is this class even available in this game if it's power is nothing? I would more rather enjoy a fart sound I could emit once per game day. I don't even want to continue playing, I don't even want to start over again, doing everything I just did all over again for a class with a power worth using (any class other than wood elf!) I seriously am going to sell the game, what a disappointment. I guess it's my fault for not rerolling sooner but how was I supposed to know every other race destroys wood elf because THEY AT LEAST HAVE A POWER THAT IS OF ANY USE!

Make a patch or something, make an option so I can skip the first 20 minutes of cut scenes before I start another character! At least make a sticky on these boards telling players it's crap compared to all of the others.

What were you developers thinking? Why did you put a completely useless race even into the game? WTF? What game do you suggest I play to allow time for me to forgive this huge waste of time that was deliberately put into the game for no reason? In the 'behind the scenes' blah blah blah 'this is what you get when you put lots hard work into a game...' well this is what I get for putting time into your stupid game, only to figure out I NEED TO START IT ALL OVER AGAIN!

PS - The quest 'Blood on the Ice' is also completely broken. I advise any other players to not even attempt it, the rewards are nothing and the walkthroughs suggest saving constantly to avoid it bugging/breaking so you have a chance of completing it, even though it has no reward.

I went single handed with shield for close action but also good at range with a bow, a little destruction magic and smithing, also took at a look at alchemy for heath pots and poisons for the bow still at alow level so not sure which way it will go.

I love the fact that as I use a skill it gets better I don't need to continually think though every action and I'm free to play as I choose. I'm also trying to roleplay a little, I'm a Nord returned home after a long time to a skyrim I don't recognise and would like to put that right, I'm morally good but not opposed to doing bad things for good in the long run, If my survial is theatened I'll do what it takes to stay alive. As a traveler I have seen the world and other races and so find it difficult to reconsile the stormcloaks veiws with m desire to help my homeland (maybe I'm over thinking this??)

A jack of all trades with a focus on melee combat. It served me well, as nothing really impeded my progress and i could adapt to any situation as needed.

Rogue - I soften them up with arrows from a distance, and if necessary, finish them off with a sword+dagger combo up close.
If things get hairy (as they often do) I use some minor Illusion spells to buy me some time to run and hide, then re-engage the enemy. :)

Playing on Master difficulty really fits this playing style, as it forces me to pick my battles. The sense of vulnerability makes it all so much more exciting.

I went with a mage first but rerolled as some characters were impossible to take down. I then went with warrior and those same impossible chars had their bums handed to them.
