What could be causing looting stutter?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:25 pm

I have no big problems with the game so far, but for some reason whenever I press E to loot something (box/corpse) there's an approximately 1 second delay everytime I do it, even when I'm looting an empty box/corpse. It doesn't make sense - there is no permanent stutter whatsoever with any other aspect of the game. There is some stutter when I first run the game and open the inventory and visit different screens, or what I enter a new area and look around, but they are quickly resolved a few moments later as the game seems to 'get used' to the menu or the environment. But it's not the same with looting. It's just a permanent 1 second delay. It's really annoying to me because well, looting is really common!

Anyone has any ideas what could be the problem?

Bump. Someone suggested it could be a memory leak problem on another board, but I restart my computer and the problem persists.

Are you using a UI mod like MTUI? The textures in such mods can cause the menu delay.

Nope... it's off a fresh install. It's just the looting that has this weird delay. The pipboy menus are actually fine (eventually). Maybe I should look for a mod that changes the loot window, maybe it'll fix it? :S Why would there be such a problem off a fresh install?

I installed Fallout 3 again on this new comp (I used to play it on my laptop) to see if there was a similar lag there. Seems like there is - so it IS my system afterall =(

Odd how looting is laggy regardless of graphical settings, and especially since both games run fine on ultra-high for me. Sigh.

Edit: Or is looting supposed to take 1 second to load? I just remember it being faster when I played fallout 3 last time... maybe everyone also takes 1 second to see the loot menu.
