What culture inspired the Scorchers Temple?

The Scorchers' Temple is perhaps the most beautiful thing I've seen in a game, and I've been wanting to see where I can see something like that in real life.

Has anyone here seen architecture like it, or know what cultural temples or ruins inspired the architecture for the Scorchers home in Rage?

There's this place called http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&gs_rn=11&gs_ri=psy-ab&pq=jungle+temple+india&cp=5&gs_id=m&xhr=t&q=ta+prohm&biw=1280&bih=832&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&wrapid=tlif136743176570510&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=VVqBUcfsOKW5igKbxYHIDA which shares its feature of having square columns as opposed to circular, as well as some of the roof tiling and I had a small impression that the Scorcher temple might be a sort of play on Ta Prohm's design, kind of hyperbolizing the size of it to make it look more impressive. http://www.theglobaldispatches.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Ta-Prohm2.jpg look just like the Scorchers place

Anyone have any ideas? Anything would help.

Well, your comparison does make sense. When I first time saw Scorcher base, I thought about some central american and south american stuff, like some exaggerated mayan and incan mixture. Coz there's lots of simple geometric styled decorations in Scorcher's base wich could pretty much resemble some sort of mayan and incan ruins. But your pictures of Ta Prohm also fits really well here, all this pagoda-like elements are recognisable. So I think id's artists was inspired by that kind of ancient architecture.

What differs Scorcher base from Ta Prohm is that in Ta Prohm there's mild, smooth decorations, engravings of Budda and other nice guys and the whole complex kinda fused with the nature, like it is a part of a forest itself. Scorchers on the other hand has severe and hardcoe approach, it's elements are more simple and rough wich reminds mostly of stones and cliffs of deserted wasteland, that's why I compared it with mayan architecture, wich is more monumentic than Ta Prohm.

Yep, I actually had thought of something Meso-American, however I couldn't find a single temple from there that has the architecture of the Scorchers temple.

Ta Prohm is the only thing I've found that actually has a similar structure, with the exception of arches. I think the arches were just put in as artistic freedom since they're actually out of place to the rest of the place. They do look fantastic though.

Perhaps they used a mix of the two cultures?

I'm almost certain the reason we don't see deities anywhere in Rage (no representational imagery) is just because they are keeping any religions nonexistent. This could explain why there aren't things like statues and such on the Scorcher temple. As far as I recall, there isn't even any reference to the "mighty god Apophis" anywhere in the Scorchers temple (thought there are symbols around), nor other spiritual things of any kind

Well, it'd be awesome if the id guys who designed this level had a portfolio or scrapbook or notes on things that inspired them. There might be some very specific place they looked at, who knows :D
