What did you like about the Knife of Dunwall?

Post » Tue May 07, 2013 11:13 am

I really enjoyed the whole packaged but the first mission gave the strongest impression.
And I just want to play more in this world that the Arkane Studios have created.
It's a damn world but there is something special about it.
Something that makes me want to save it and all the whales in the world.

I've even made my own little 54 sec fan video where there is a different ending to Daud, where he is looking at the world around him while what he has done goes through his mind before he...

Right, so what did you like about the Knife of Dunwall?

The slaugherhouse and the posh district were both great locations.
Also, I liked that Daud had a personality and voice, imo it worked out very very well - which makes me think that a voiced corvo would have worked just fine.

Finally, stun mines. Those things are simply awesome - much more useful in ghost runs than the choke grenades (which, admittedly, also were much needed).

I really loved it. I little shorter than I would have liked, but it was really quality stuff. Now I can replay with different tactics and choices. Environments were awesome, and I enjoy how it didn't condemn you too much for high chaos.

Of course, Daud's voice is also awesome, I think that if the next player character had a voice, they should add a small amount of dialogue variance and choices. If it were Corvo the next game, however, keep it as is.

I really liked the stun mine's and the choke dust, gives you more ways to play non-lethal.The summon assassin ability was cool imo, had some good laughs with it xD

Wow, where do I begin?

I loved that Daud is a developed character, with a story and a voice.
I really liked that the story is more engaging, as opposed to the "kill all these people and get your girl back" plot that we had before. There's a convoluted intrigue there that we're only starting to unravel. Or at least I hope it's going to be as complex as it looks.
The difficulty level went up a bit in my eyes, which I find is good, too.

Those are the main things I care about - characters and story. The gameplay is important too, of course, but that was already great in the main game.
Why oh why did it have to be so short? I know it's just DLC but damn.

I only got the DLC today, and spent about 3 hours going through the first mission (the slaughterhouse).

I really like the fact that Daud was given dimentionality as a character, - he not only has a face and a voice,
but also we are given glimpses into his personality and his reasons for being what he is and how the events of the
first game affected him. The way he handles is similar enough to Corvo to be easy to pick up, yet different enough
with varied enough gadgets to provide new approaches and new ways of going about in a level.

Level design is consistently exquisite and an absolute pleasure to explore, - which is why it's taking me likely longer
than an average person.... I like to explore and look everywhere, and this game and the DLC is like crack to someone
like me.

Of course, I was glad to see the Outsider again, too

Whoa whoa.
What?
Arc Mines knock guys unconscious? I thought they zapped and killed them!
Welp, time for playthrough 3.
Overall, I liked the missions more then in the original. I liked the level design a lot too, and the slaughterhouse was both something I loved and hated. It was an amazing place, but what they did there... it will never be forgiven.
The other district was cool too, I liked jumping from rooftop to balcony and stuff, it felt really cool ^^. The non-lethal way was pretty freakin awesome too.
Probably my most into Dishonored moment, when I felt good and attached, was when I was saving the assassins. My trusty, trusty Whalers. Mans best friend.

The blink for Daud was also WAY better, and I liked his Void Gaze, because I didn't need to switch out to that creepy heart, and back, and back, and back...
I rarely use the higher costing spells, preferring just Void Gaze, Blink, Shadow kill, and Agility, but that's just me. The summon assassin ability was pretty dang useful though... I wish mana could regen very very slowly over time, as well as the norm. That would be freakin awesome.

Best way to play this game is with no HUD at all.
It just makes everything much more real and less like an arcade game, if you get what I mean.
You start paying attention more to being in the game than watching the health bar, text or objective waypoints showing you the path.

Well, this DLC really surprised me. I don't get why people got so angry at the "re-used assets" thing, from where I'm standing, they kinda HAD to re-use a level from the base game, or else it wouldn't make any sense.

I really liked the way they handled Daud and gave him depth; I find the premise of the story more interesting than the main story; The only point that really annoys me is because it is too damn short and I want MOAR. Nice difficulty, also. And I really liked Billie Lurk, she would be an interesting character to play as in a future DLC/spin-off.

As opposed to what a little racist? as for Billie I can't connect the voice and the face it just seems off somehow? She sounds young but looks old.

Yeah, I felt there was a kind of disconnect between the voice and the looks too. Also, while she looks lean and stern on the concept art, in the game she looked... round and plump, not like an assassin, lol.

She's led a tough life growing up in a tough city to be a child in. It's quite easy to believe that she could appear much older than she really is.

I certainly didn't find her "plump".

While it's one thing to say that she herself does not fit the assassin type, saying she looks more like a pimp queen sounds pretty damn racist.

I don't see anything wrong with her aesthetically, whether it's her voice or her looking the part.

Now that i think of it i guess they made Billie look like that so she won't be a generic hot female that gives the players a boner. hearing her voice then seeing that she isn't your average hotty sidekick is better.
