What difficulty setting will you be playing on your first pl

And why?

I will be playing on hard. Hopefully this will provide a solid challenge. I think itll also require more creativity in reguard to stealth while also extending the game in a genuine and authentic way.

I'll try normal since easy in stealth games is way too easy.

Normal. I need to know what the "average" experience in Dishonored is before tinkering with it one way or another.

Hardest I guess. Not because I am good or anything, but because I like to take my time and really fear the enemy. I like to sit back and watch a situation while thinking "How the hell am I gonna solve this problem". Its like a point and click adventure game:D

Some games becomes frustrating on hard. Not because it is hard but because you get tunneled down a corridor and the only way to proceed is with load save load save and remembering enemy patterns. This will not be a problem in Dishonored I think (as with Thief) since you have so much room to manouver and improvise. So then I can focus on the fun part: figuring out how to solve a seemingly impossible situation:)

Getting creative with your gameplay is most fun if it is for a reason instead of just because

Totally agree. The planification in easy mode have no reason to be, but in hardests levels it's a true challege >: )

After watching the GP demos, I think the description of "Hard Difficulty" suits me on the 1st playthrough.
On Normal it just doesn't seem like you're detected enough. Even when you're right under someones noses.
Also, add in the fact that the melee will require some blocking in the harder mode due to the increased enemy damage.
"Very Hard" is probably going to be nuts! But not impossible.

I intend to play all difficulties (most likely won't play the game at all) and try lots of settings and options. Setting up rules for myself as I go. That's how I play.

For me it usually goes if I like the game I always pick the hardest, if I dont like the game and want to finish it fast I take easier difficult level. Dont know how it goes with this.

I haven't been following these forums very closely, but you seem to have a very bipolar love/hate relationship with this game strife. What's up with that?;)
I mean, you're gonna play all difficulties but probably not play it at all?:D

Key word here is "intend to". If the game disappoints me I will not play it at all. I will still be here on the forums reading about other people's experiences with the game. I don't have a bipolar relationship with it, at the moment it's neutral quite frankly slightly leaning towards disappointed. I have no reason to be other than the fact I am cynical.

Well, it's perfectly fine to be cynical. Now I don't know what games you usually like but I am willing to bet that you won't be dissapointed. Arkane has made two fantastic games before this and the values they have towards games are almost unmatched in the industry. Just make sure you can enjoy the game for what it is and not what your dreamgame should be like. I suggest playing on one of the harder difficulties for higher chances of a Thief like experience (and I know you like that game :) )

I agree they were fantastic but they never climbed to the heights in my eyes. Thief 2 and Deus Ex are one of the best games ever made and at this point if Dishonored doesn't amount to one of them I will be disappointed. I raised my standarts because I am tired of games with a whole lot of bark and absolutely no bite. So either Dishonored is great (it likely won't be) or I will be disappointed. I didn't feel that way until recently so my opinion could have been affected by a lot of things (I really don't care which to be honest). My point still stands, if it's not top quality, it's no quality.

What made you slightly disappointed strife?
Also I would start on normal. If I started on hard I would more than likely quit the game after failing being stealthy for the hundredth time. stealth is not my thing lol.

We shall see when it comes out, but it sure looks like this game has more bite than bark. It seems like a very focused title. No convoluted "we make thrilling stories" promises with lots of cutscenes and fancy choices every minute. Just pure handcrafted levels with exploration and improvisation. Bioshock is't even close to this level of misson sandbox freedom, the released playthroughs and previews already show that much. At the same time this is clearly a much more handcrafted and atmospheric game than Assasins Creed etc. It may turn out to have som flaws but this has already proven itself to be the first game of it's kind since, well, Thief.

So time will tell if it will remain a classic. But this is, with no doubt at all, a game in the same spirit as Thief and DX1. Those games had flaws too, lots actually, but are still the best (and only) of their kind. Would you really miss out on another run down that line, even if the major reviewers don't like it 100%?

It's nothing about the game I assure you. The game still looks great. It's a mixture of a lot of things. Some people's approach to it, that it isn't hyped all that much yet sounds too good to be true. All the things that have been showed so far lead me to believe that the game will be great. It's just my cynicism talking on this one. I really have no reason to be disappointed by it and I feel like I am going to. A "gut feeling" if you will. I was excited about games like Journey, Bastion and DX:HR recently but not this much. I have never been more excited about anything in my entire life. Maybe I feel that the objective view I have over the game will fade away or that I am too easily taken in by it. I really don't know but I want to make this clear: the game will be good. I can safely bet on that. It's probably not going to be great.

I don't watch or read reviews but I might actually do it for this game. Actually I am going to read/watch everything I can for a month after the game comes out and of course take the opinion of the people I respect into account. Both Thief and Deus Ex had issues but not ones that would make you throw out the games. In fact, they are still the greatest games despite their issues. Hey who knows, the game might actually be that good and even better. It might actually be held as high as Deus Ex maybe even higher (probably not). Until it actually comes out we can only speculate but I doubt anything better than Deus Ex will come in the near future.

Yes, gut feelings can be scary. But for some reason I'm not worried about this one. It just seems like its going to be a good time no matter what. It has that style of gameplay that I have not seen in ages (not that I play many single player games these days). It may not be perfect or brilliant, but I'm pretty sure its going to be my kind of game. It will be nice too loose oneself into a singleplayer story again.

Ever played Vampire: Bloodlines btw? It sounds like your type of game. I usually don't care for vampires but that game is more or less 100% like DX1. It even has a great story and the same old impossible to hit anything with guns from DX (untill you put skillpoint there). Many conciders it a classic along DX although its not as well known. I diddnt like the idea of it but was very plesantly suprised. Great voiceacting too and some of the best sidequest of any game

I have played that game far too much to be honest and it is very good. One of the best RPGs.
