It means it's better than what you currently have equipped, I believe.

It's not things that are better than what I have equipped since the second screenshot shows it on an item that I already have equipped. It's not enchanted items either. It even shows up on items in shops that are worse than what I'm already carrying.

It's a straight highest damage/armour rating indicator for the best items in your inventory. Of course, it doesn't take enchantments into account, or personal preference, but it's nice to know at a glance.

I don't play PS3, but I believe that marks things you have in your "Favorites".

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the rating of the piece of armor. In the bottom bar when you're looking at an item there is a green or red indicator of the armor rating, the ones with the triangle beside them have +x in that section telling you it's better quality.

Why does it show up on stuff that has lower damage/armor rating than what I already have equipped? Also, I'm looking at a shop now that has a briastplate that is higher armor rating than what I'm wearing and there is no triangle next to it. I'm baffled.

Here is the screenshot of the briastplate.

Because the banded and Dwarven stuff at the top is better.

See the armor rating 26(+27) I'm pretty sure the triangle is just telling you that it's (+xx).

I've checked my inventory and everything that has (+xx) in the armor rating has the triangle.

It may have to do with perks, because I took the juggernaut perk for heavy armor, and my pieces of heavy armor have the triangle. Not sure if it was there before taking the perk.

The one that is selected in that screenshot has +27 but doesn't have the triangle.

I thought that was it but then opened another shop and saw this. The dwarven helm is better than mine but the steel helm isn't. They BOTH have triangles.

I'm starting to think it means my skill for those items isn't high enough. I'm probably wrong though. I read the manual but it doesn't even mention it.

Fairly certain that is to let you know you have that item in your favorites list.

No not favorites. That's the other little triangle. Besides I wouldn't have a favorite set up for an item in a shop that I don't even own.

Could it be indicating that the weapon is somehow improved over the base weapon? Like an upgraded weapon will have it while a stock one won't?

No argument involved. We're just trying to figure out what it means. So far nothing makes sense.

Yeah, I meant predicament.

But, really, I don't think it matters too much.

Well I see it on generic items in shops that are in stacks (see 4th screenshot above). I've also seen it on plain weapons and items I've created myself.

Ah, quite right. Only other thing I'm thinking is it indicates enchantment? I haven't used that too much yet, but it seems there might be some indication an item is enchanted, and perhaps whether it needs to be charged?

It shows up in screenshot 4 on items that are not enchanted.

It definitely refers to the best rated items. It's mentioned in the dialogue in-game (or in one of the loading screens... I can't remember).
