To what extent can you go rogue on TESO?

Post » Thu Jan 30, 2014 9:49 am

I have a few questions about the game mechanics when it comes to confronting other players.

For instance, how does the player killing go in Cyrodiil? Can you just chose to kill whoever you want in your sight? Are you able to grief other players in public dungeons by KSing? What about guild wars, do you necessarily fight against guilds of other factions, or can you fight your own faction?

I read that you cannot loot players when they die. This gave me a bad impression, because I have the feeling that you can just go around messing up with others without risking to lose anything at all when you get killed, and it also seems to make PvP boring like in GW2. Is there something else you actually lose when you die? How do you feel about not being able to loot others?

I think that question falls under the NDA. Suffice to say if you expect hardcoe PvP with serious dead penalties this is not the game for you. In addition to that it's faction warfare, not interfaction warfare.

Haven't you posted multiple threads asking about why we can't grief other players?

All the developer talk to this point indicates that Cyrodiil will be a PvP zone where you are able to kill anyone from an opposing faction. Since dungeons are instanced, I would assume that they are not considered PvP territory, even if they are in Cyrodiil.

Well that would be unfair. Lets say someone hits like a higher level and already has better gear from questing, he could just go beat the hell out of anyone and take their gear? Idk how selling things works in ESO yet (im educating my self) but then he could just sell all this cool stuff from people. Unless you could just loot a portion of their gold or something, not sure.

What im more concerned about is stealthy characters.. In the middle of battle. Lets say you're sneaking... wait, how you gonna sneak with lets say 50 enemies around you? you will just get an arrow to the knee lol, unless you go chameleon oblivion style.

I guess cyrodiil is just sparta mode, beat the hell out of anyone from other factions you like.

There is no FFA, no O-PvP, no player-looting, no friendly-fire and no griefing of any kind.

This is not Darkfall.

Pvp is faction based. You can't kill members of your faction. At least that is my understanding from the released information so far. If you want more details those that could answer are under an NDA.

No. I posted 1 thread sometime ago debating the need of drama in MMOs. It was the 1 thread I ever posted before. But I really don't see the necessity of your comment there, was that an attempt to make this discussion personal?

So there is still nothing to lose when you die? You can just keep going back until you kill your enemy if he's higher level?

You can only target and kill people from the other Alliances in Cyrodiil; therefore, guilds can only fight against guilds in other alliances.

Griefing other players and and taking away their enjoyment away from gameplay svcks.

Unless there is an ingame mechanism to help protect coveted items/equipment from dropping ("if" there was player looting) then this will deter a lot of people from PVP....which also svcks.

I assume you aren't going to just respawn exactly where you died. But yes, if you want to keep running back and trying to find one particular player, you can try that. I doubt it will work.

So if you are a high level you can just annoy low levels anyway? Kill them every time they return. I mean, how is this even working out? An area full of players just endlessly PvPing with no need for strategy, no need for caring about losing anything or any other limits... sounds like a huge cluster[censored] to me. Does this actually work?

Seeing how big cyrodiil is and all the places and towns within it, i doubt you will get hundreds of players smashing out in the middle of nowhere, there will probably be groups scattered across the place.

From my understanding after reading the official page for this stuff http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en/game-guide/the-alliance-war pvp will only be in Cyrodiil, and it will set everyone at the same level so everyone is roughly on the same playing field.

I highly doubt a lvl 50 will be able to stroll into another alliances territory and just mercilessly flatten anyone lower level than them.

Well, first of all, everyone's stats get equalized in Cyrodiil, so gear and skill will be the only things that make a difference. And if you watch any of the videos about PvP, you'll see that Cyrodiil is not going to work the way you describe. There are strategic points to capture, and battles are clearly going to be focused at those points. You won't have some random group of players hanging out in a field for a big battle.

All depends on how balanced factions are I would say.

If you look at Aion (if you've ever heard of it), they had faction wars non-stop, trying to take control over forts and such. But eventually as the game died down, and players started to realize there was no hope for their faction ever taking over forts, thus said players would simply leave their faction and start a new on the "Winning" faction. This sadly is a trend that will never change, regardless of your favorite race, and probably even more likely to happen now with the "Explorers Pack", what with being able to choose anything you want, and join any faction.

In the end you'll probably have to see how it turns out. In my opinion, the game will eventually be heavily one sided, as others lose "hope" and interest in their first selected factions.

Actually, everyone in Cyrodiil is "scaled" up to level 50 regardless of their true level. The only thing that can be taken into account after all of this is gear and access to skills. People will need to strategize ( the good players/guilds will) in order to obtain keeps and other valuable resources as well as some lucky individual(s) being crowned emperor. The keeps/resources play a big part in ESO's economy since this is where mostly all the player shops will be located. These are the main objectives in Cyrodiil.

Can't KS, everyone gets credit for the kill. You cannot fight your own faction. You lose nothing but time when you die. Not being able to loot others is expected and good overall for the game.

I think that the concern that one of the replys by Humour, is what we should be worried about..

I remember a game that at the beginning was such a lot of fun(warhammer) all the keep fights , and zone fights, the ebb and flow was great. They messed about merging servers, the balance tipped alarmingly in one factions favour.

Players got sick of the zerg tactics, then either rerolled to the "I win Faction" or quit.

and we all know what happened to Warhammer.

That's the big worry now about joining any faction with your favourite Race,

I hope that im proved wrong, as I cant wait to play this game....Just hope they haven't dropped the ball on this latest development.
