I'm sorry but call of duty 4 is the most overrated game this generation... I really don't get it.

Well, in last generation it was games like Doom and Tomb Raider that define the videogame industry. In this generation the only games that I often hear in ALL game forums in pro/con is CoD and WoW. Never played those two and I don't like those two but their popularity and contribution to gaming whether for better or for worse is mind bottling. Those two games have become a cliche in pop culture and I won't be surprise if WoW/CoD name enters the dictionary.

I'm not sure why some people in this thread apparently read the title as "What games do you think svck?" Seriously, guys, can't you just, you know, let people like games you don't like? This is about what games you like, so just leave it at that.

I'd say Skyrim or maybe Fallout: New Vegas are somewhere at the top of my list. I also really enjoyed RDR. This thread has reminded me, I need to get around to finishing Deus Ex: HR.

DX HR
TW 2
Fallout New Vegas
Torchlight ( i guess this needs some explaining while it isn't very impressive as such but the addiction and fun i've had with it is hard to beat by many games)
Oblivion
Skyrim
Arkham City
Is all games i really like so it's to just pick one.

I'd go with Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption or Mass Effect 2. Dragon Age Origins and Grand Theft Auto IV deserve honourable mentions too.

Hmm... Dunno if I'd call them the "Pinnacle of this Generation", but M&B: Warband, the Witcher 2 and Red Dead Redemption might be my favourites. With Mass Effect 2, Skyrim and Oblivion close behind. And then Dragon Age: Origins and Botanicula.

Hmmm. Well, I would say that two games in this generation of consoles were outstanding in my opinion.

The first one is Saints Row 2. So much content... so much fun... so little time... Some great activities and diversions, like FUZZ, insurance fraud, hitman, and the tow truck diversion. There's also a great variety of weapons that are fun to use, like shock paddles, satchel charges, and machetes. The in-depth character customization was phenomenal, and the vehicle customization was great too. The storyline was decent, and there were some VERY memorable cut-scenes, like Carlos getting dragged to death by a truck, Aisha getting killed, and Shogo getting buried alive. There were also some fun cheats to use, and the city was just fun to explore because of the different peds, i.e. cheerleaders, pimps, protesters, hippies, skateboarders, etc. I don't think Saints Row 2 gets the credit it deserves. A lot of content, good variety, deep customization, lots of laughs and lots of fun. A great game all-around.

The other game I have to mention is Call of Duty 4. By far the best FPS I have ever played on a console. Fairly balanced weapons, interesting perk set-ups, and excellent maps. I really cannot praise this game enough for the maps. I've probably put more hours into this game than any other, so much so that I'd be a bit embarrassed to say just how many hours I've played it. If it wasn't for modders and/or hackers destroying the multiplayer on the Xbox, I'd still be playing this game everyday. Oh well...

Diablo 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and L.A Noire.

It's possible to simulate the entire experience of L.A Noire by watching 50's crime movies for 20 hours while flicking the "silent" switch on an iPhone up and down the entire time.

New vegas

Skyrim (for immediate feeling, despite my reservations as to the ratio of action to roleplaying game, it just has the best virtual physical world for me)

Bioshock, the only thing even resembling a shooter from this generation that has held me for more than five minutes.

And I don't care what anyone else says, Lost Odyssey.

I agree with Lost Odyssey. I especially enjoyed the Thousand Years of Dreams stories.

Other games I really enjoy this generation are Fallout 3, Oblivion, Civilization Revolution, Civilization 4, Disgaea 4, and Xenoblade Chronicles. Perhaps Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn as well.

Still my overall favorite series is Romance of the 3 Kingdoms. Unfortunately the last one was Romance 11 and that was released last generation.

Lost Odyssey?! Really?! Hehe nah i cannot fault that choice. That was a VERY good game imo. Kaim was an excellent main protagonist and those little short glimpses into his mind were great. Besides playing as an immortal was interesting.

I guess Morrowind isn't really 'this generation' anymore... in which case it's a toss-up between Civilization 4 (with expansions) and New Vegas.

Depends on the gamer. Probably, it's CoD for the most part. In reality, it's probably whatever games are currently rated 9.5 regardless of whether or not you think those games deserve the ratings they have.

Me? The pinnacle of games for me, in this generation, is probably Red Dead Redemption.

It's called opinion. I thought the game was great and reflected 50's crime very well.

So many to choose from... I suppose, if I had to pick a game that defined this generation, I'd say Minecraft and the rise of the indie.

But my 'best' games of the generation are more like this:
Mirror's Edge
Mount and Blade: Warband
Oblivion
Skyrim
DF2010

I'll throw my hat into the Mount and Blade: Warband ring. Its proven how despite average graphics, combat is done very well. A series like Elder Scrolls, which has become completely action-based, could learn a thing or two to make it less of a button-masher.
Minecraft, Halo: CE, Warcraft 3 and Oblivion (despite its flaws, the Radiant AI (despite ITS many flaws and simplicity) was the start of something all together good in my books for open-world games (Morrowind always turned me off with how bland city-populations were)) are part of my personal list.

Fallout: New Vegas is my favorite game this generation, so far.

Some honorable mentions:

Sword of the Stars: Complete Collection .... loved the strategy
STALKER series (the only singe player FPS that can hold my attention indefinitely)
World of Warcraft .... the Ulduar dungeon was probably the best PvE multiplayer I have seen in an MMO, but it went down hill from there.
Amnesia: the Dark Descent or Dead Space (not the mediocre sequel) both made me enjoy being scared even though I am not a fan of horror.
Alpha Protocol.... probably the most underrated RPG ever
