What happens if i tell a companion to "wait here"?

My companion is faendal from riverwood, what would happen if i told him to wait here at windhelm? Will he actually wait in that spot and be there if i were to return weeks later?

Im to the point where faendal is dying almost every dungeon and i have to reload a save and run ahead to kill things before he gets there. Ive given him a lot of stuff, and want him to be my pack mule until i can find enough vendors to sell all the stuff.

Telling him to wait there will make him stay in that spot. After a few days, or a few weeks, of time in-game, he'll go back to whatever he calls home. So, in Faendal's case, he'll be in Riverwood.

Well if you meet the followers at a certain like lvl 5, they will be at lvl 5. I just tell them it is over and it's time to part ways. And then right away rehire them. It's usually when I hit a milestone. So from lvl 5 to lvl 20. At 20 I discontinue our contract and then rehire them.

Or this is how I understood how the followers worked.

So i need to dismiss Faendal and then ill have some option to get him back correct? I like the guy, he was very powerful up until lvl 10, and im lvl 15 now

If you tell him to wait at a city or in your house as you are out venturing.... you will soon get a message your companion went home due to boredom after a few days.

If you tell your companion to sit back for strategic purposes in a dungeon, he will still come running to your aid if you bring the mob nearby. And he will wait at the last spot his combat ended, not go back to the original wait locale so you wil have to tell him to follow and tag him to his original wait position if you need too.

I think it's two in-game days.

Haha, are you serious? I need to try that once.

You'll get a message along the lines of "Your companion has grown tired of waiting and returned home". That's about all.

Good ol fady, After doin the sven quest I had him follow me into the woods, told him to wait. Then I snuck around back of him and put an arrow in his head. Later I got a welcome surprise :D

My 2 cents, kill him :D :D :D

ive really never liked killing named, non-hostile NPCs in TES. i feel like i depopulate the game when i do that. theres not that many unique people in skyrim anyway, i wanna keep as many as possible :P
