As title asks, what lvl should I start my education at the College of Winterhold?

Any level though I suggest you're decently strong because some of the later quests are a little challenging. Well of you're a pure mage Altmer some of the magical enemies will lay a smack-down.

Welcome to level scaling. It doesn't matter what your level is, the threat is scaled to you.

If you somehow have trouble, anyway, you can put off any quest you have trouble with for a few levels, and when you come back, the enemies will have stayed the same level.

If you are a mage, you should probably take the first wagon ride to Winterhold, though. You only really have to cast a single summon spell, and they let you buy the summon spell if you don't have it yet, at that. Then you get access to plenty of good maging materials.

Cool thanks peeps, I am not a "pure" mage, he def has some skill in 1h swords and light armor. He has goten out of some hairy situations that I just thought "If I was a pure magic user, Id be so dead right now.." lol

The college of Winterhold was one of the first things I did. You don't have to be a high level do the quests. I finished it under level ten.
