Choose your console based on what exclusive games you would like to play the most. If you are concerned about customization then buy or build a PC.
Well, the thing is, I'm not even sure if console gaming is right for me. My friends are all on PC, which also has mods. It also has better graphics, but I'm not factoring that in because that is subjective to the system you build.
The PC does get "exclusives" too, although they aren't referred to as so. There are plenty of games that never make it to consoles, such as StarCraft 2, or if they do it is in a gimped form a la Minecraft.
I love StarCraft 2, Minecraft (modded), some of the Skyrim mods look awesome, and I'd love to be able to play with my friends. The biggest off-put is the price.
I've already decided. I'm just going to use the money I would have spent on a next gen console and buy/build a computer (granted it'll cost more than a console so that's only money going towards the new computer). I have nothing against console users (so this isn't a console vs. pc post) but for me my Xbox is pretty much only used for watching Netflix and playing DvD movies anymore.
Yes it can be more expensive initially. A couple years later you can get a 20% - 50% faster video card for about 1/5 of the initial total cost of building another PC and still see a worthwhile upgrade. The same can be said about the CPU a couple more years later. You can really extend the life of a PC.
I know. In fact, the games seem to be cheaper also, especially with Steam sales and whatnot. It's just that initial investment. Even a low-end PC with the bare minimum for comfortable gaming is going to be at least £100-£150 more than an Xbox One.
Indeed, GoG is insane. Recently bought a deal on Might and Magic games. 10 Games for 8,45$, that's right, about 84 - 85 cents a game. Then I got a Heroes bundle with 13 games for 17,44 and lastly a D&D bundle with 9 games for 17,11 and let's not forget many of those games had a lot of expansion packs that came too.
So in total 32 games for 43$. Not bad by my count, even if many of them are pretty old games some of them are fairly recent and all of them playable on modern computers. (curse thee no playback on consoles D:)
I'm getting a PS4 cause I need a Blu-Ray player and a next gen console to play games like Metal Gear Solid 5 and stuff.
You can do that with a PC too, it's as simple as plugging it into the HDMI port on your TV. Most PC games have native support for the 360 controller, and you probably already have one of those too.
Total War Rome 2, StarCraft 2, Dota 2, Project Eternity, Terraria 1.2 update, Company of Heroes(don't like 2), Age of Empire 2, Mods, Civilization, cheap ass games, play old games, Faster Than Light, Legend of Grimrock, Magicka, Kebral Space Program, Arma 3, Torchlight 2, Diablo, WOW, GW2, Planetary Annihilation, Garry's Mod.
Buy a console and a PC, then you have the best of both worlds. Don't restrict yourself to one platform.
No Cynical remarks or satirical wit, if I have the mental capacity and fortitude to make such comments/remarks, but I would wait until they've been out for quite some time. The main problem with Next Gen consoles is that the initial game line up is rather shaky at best. There are a few good games in the line up, so don't get me wrong. What it comes down to are those games to carry the console until more games are released down the road. Developers have to learn about the console, how to deal with it, and how to make games for it. Not 100% sure if it's true, but I heard that when the PS3 first hit, the developers were scrambling to understand how to make games for it.
pc I would go the way of pattern recognition and give commodore 64 as an example 64 bytes in its time was well it still made me write but man those were the days pc I mean they have 6 gig graphics cards on the market now so consumer wise pc however I am lazy as a person and just putting a disc (dling something) and playing something is well easy
correction 64 kbs which goes to show my memory is not what it used to be does not change the fact that I still have a soft spot for jumping man
IMO you should build your own PC, your friends are PC gamer so ask them for help if you get confused.
If you do go the PC route, try and get Windows 7 because some older games have compatibility issues.
Think about this, you buy your console and than you need to fork over another $60 for one game or you could go on steam during the summer sale and buy a dozen games..
Recommendation

Also next gen console can't play any previous gen game, but on PC you are able to play game older than you.
Well that's not true in my case, they didn't even exist back then.
Are you sure?
I mean I'm 3 years older than http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_Space which is probably the first commercially operated game .... I'm just used to being older than most people on this forum lol
I wonder how much a working one of those would be worth?
EDIT: After a little research .. oddly only $1,500 - $3,000 ... I would have thought it'd be worth much more.
