So, What's My Problem?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 1:54 pm

I love my PS3 and I loved all 12 hours of Skyrim that I've been able to play. The game is amazing.
But now, it's unplayable. I can get about 15 minutes into the game and it goes crazy. I haven't experienced any framerate problems, I can run through towns and outdoors just fine. I have no problems with freezes (other than an occasional freeze while it loads. Rather, it just loads forever. AT LEAST I HAVE AN INTERACTIVE LOAD SCREEN). I have problems with things just going nuts. I've stated in previous posts my problems. Dragons just being bones, collecting random dragon souls as I wander about, being forced out of a conversation and therefore unable to pick up quests, and the most common of them all, Everything drops out from around me, like I'm falling in a loop. I can see a few objects, chests and doorways, maybe a bucket or something. And, I can interact with them. But it just stays like that until I restart. I can play maybe another fifteen minutes then this happens again. It happens with all three copies of the game I've tried on my ps3 but not with the original owners or there ps3 with my copy of the game. I've deleted autosave files, disabled autosaved, "turned down" the ps3s graphics and whatnot, uninstalled and reinstalled the patch, all to no avail.

I was wondering if this is the same kind of problem most everyone seems to have,
or, are people experiencing the same awful bug/glitch/thingy in a different way?
Is there one, collective issue here, or are we experiencing many different problems?
Also, I think I experienced problems a lot sooner than everyone else (a little before 5000), could this be due to 3 other people having Skyrim characters on my PS3?
(Yes they are all experiencing problems, as well.)
I have an Xbox 360. Reckon Gamestop'll let me get a copy for the 360? Should I? And by "should I" I don't mean "Is the Xbox 360 a superior console to the PS3" or vice versa. I mean, "Am I wasting my time waiting for this to be fixed?".
( I'm not tech savvy, as you can probably tell. For that, I apologize. Apologies also, for the essay. If I have left out any information that I could possibly have that could help answer my question, please let me know.)

I cant believe how many people are having problems with the PS3 version. I spent 60 hours and still going on right now. My save is 9333 KB. I wonder why some arent having a smooth experience, the only time i've experienced lag was in the cities and that was only for a few seconds longest lasting a minute, and only happens if i've been playing for like 7 hrs straight.. As for you this may sound stupid but make sure yur system is in a well ventalated place with room, and sometimes if yu can get a blower and keep dust awy from it or blow out dust from inside. Could possibly make things better because its not overheating. For inside the game, every lil bit after awhile, make a new save and delete the other one, kinda like checkpoints. Hope I helped buddy, enjoy :)

I upgrade from 3.7 firmware to 3.73, deleted all my auto save file and removing all auto save in game menu and I don't get anymore this lag problem.
I played more than 4 hours straight today whit a 9.6 mb save file whit a lot of place discovered.
So, try it.

I think it is well ventilated. I mean, it's in the largest part of my entertainment center below my Television. When I vacuum, I will take a hose to the back of the ps3 just to svck up some lingering dust that accumulates (it's not a lot of dust, though).
So, is my problem not your problem?
Every other game runs fine on my ps3. The only other thing that ever lags or has issues is Hulu. And well, that just seems to be Hulu.

Oh and thanks!

Yessir (I assume sir). Same ol', Same ol'. For what it's worth, the PS3 is THE source of entertainment in my apartment right now. I opted out of Xbox Live after getting the PS3 and my computer is awful, so it's the sole source of Netflix and Vidja games an' whatnot. I'll try giving it longer breaks between use and post back if that helps. Thank ye!

I broke 9 MB late last night after playing for a few hours and the game started to get a little twitchy here and there so I saved and quit, deleted a bunch of old saves from the system (I make a new saved game every time I save to avoid any potential overwrite problems, so that took like 10 minutes) and then just turned off the PS3 for the night. Got up this morning and played for 3 hours first thing and it was totally fine again. I think part of the problem is artifcats being carried over in save overwriting as I did see some problems on my first playthrough of New Vegas when I just rotated through 5 saves and kept overwriting them, but then when I started a new game and created all new saves I was able to play through the entire game and all the DLC's with very few issues (the Old World Blues DLC got super laggy when I first accessed it but quitting and coming back to it the next day resolved that).

lol, i wish i knew why this was happening, like i havent had any game breaking quests, game runs smoothly, i even have all the auto save options on. why i can say is maybe clean out the hard drive (not my idea) have more space for the game to use, and then in game, put the hud opacity in the middle and play without auto save options hopefully it'll work, im level 42, 66 hours and save file is 9576

Yeah i learned that too, i'll overwrite a save for alil bit and then just create a whole new save and delete the old one. i think it helps alot too

After 12 hours it's like that? What do you do? jump everywhere and move every item in stores and other indoor places?

There does seem to be a trend in people having fewer lag issues running the game on systems with plenty of free space and managing the number of save files, particularly the auto ones made by the game.

Yeah I also don't use the autosave at all because it's always overwriting itself and I tend to not trust that. I prefer being able to manage my own game progress.

Agreed, i have 34 free GB, and it runs pretty good. So maybe that could be the possability? Also signing offline seems to reduce it alittle bit too.
