What rules help you roleplay?

Post » Wed Oct 24, 2012 3:07 am

Are there are any restrictions or rules you put on a character that help your experience? Or do you play with no restrictions? If you do, what are they? Like for example, no fast travel except carriages, eat regularly, not doing certain quests, picking certain skills or not picking certain skills, D.I.D., etc, etc.

I'm interested to see what combination of rules people play with and how hardcoe some players are a far as their roleplaying is concerned.

I play with no fast travel except carriages, and only wear hide or fur armor. Stick to a predetermined perk trees, and attach my coin purse to an electrical current which sends a surge whenever a rule is broken.

Adhere to the persona, and prejudices are meant to be overcome in due time.

Example of my most extreme RPing (Rarely happens)
When I play a hunter I don't wear anything that a hunter wouldn't be able to make (Steel plate, etc) I use armor that is made from hides or other parts of animals (Forsworn, Saviors Hide) I use weapons that I could make living in the wild (Forsworn Bow, etc) I DO NOT fast travel. I typically bring Faendal with me if I'm a hunter, and may bring a dog. I make weekly stops to the smaller holds when I need to offload some game. I split the Money with my follower if I bring one. I sleep late at night into early morning hours, make food daily, and may go buy a book or two too read before bed.

This is the result of my extreme boredom and insomnia in real life, and lack of being able to find a job. That is how I RP a hunter, and those are just some examples you may find useful. Enjoy!

Depends on the character.

Currently on my assassin-thief;
- For starters I never walk around in my Guild Master armor or DB armor. Always dressed like a normal citizen, acting normal and all. When the night falls, I crawl into my house, dress up (Depending am I going for assassinations or thievery), and slowly sneak out of the town.
- I never fight with bears, trolls, sabre cats, anything big basicly in hand-to-hand combat. Yes as 38th level I can poke bears with no problems, but it isn't realistic to engage them in hand-to-hand so I rather use sneak-stab or archery. If I get into HtH, I usually attempt to escape from that combat.
- I never use fast travel, carriages only if we're talking about extreme distances like Riften - Markrath, Riften - Solitude, etc. Usually when I travel, I travel on foot as a Thane of Whiterun, dressed up fancy, and Lydia as my guard, no compass only signs on the road and ofcourse looking at map while in town.

There are loads of examples and I won't put everything down here because more people will surely add something as well, but yeah these are basic three things I stick to with my assassin-thief. Ofcourse, food, drink... That's just normal for RP.
On other chars I worship gods aswell, but this one is just... Well, not hard to guess :D

I'll allow fast travel, through pacified areas (Blue Palace to Katla's Farm, for instance).

I'm experimenting with DiD... not sure if it'll be my thing.

Also, I nerf crafting to a sane level.
