What settings do you play your games on?

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 9:16 pm

I like to play all my games on their highest setting, with my catalyst control center forcing 24x AA and 16x AF.

Because my computer can handle it and t looks so good.

What do you guys like to do?

I'm not sure why anyone would play on anything other than the highest setting the game could run comfortably.

I run my games on... The only setting there is, because I'm a console peasant. :P

But on PC, even though I can run things well full screen at good settings, I prefer to play window mode. I usually do other stuff while I game, and since I'm a PC noob, I'm constantly looking stuff up, so I need a browser, and, tons of pdfs and crap open behind the game screen.

Someone is very proud of their setup and wants to feel cool because of it. :whistling:

I typically run things on Medium to Medium-High settings, because my computer is just good not great. I'm planning on buying a whole new super computer next month that should be able to run everything on max settings.

Highest I can play comfortably on. I usually don't force anything through the Nvidia Control panel aside from anisotropic filtering, unless it's a really old game and it's noticeably aliased.

24x AA? Really? And 16x AF? What the hell are you running? I call shenanigans unless you've got like quad sli mars IIs or something.
I can play most of the games I have on PC on their highest settings (minus max AA I usually stick to 2x) acceptably except for oblivion because that game is [censored].

Usually the highest, except I keep AA at 4x because I can't tell any difference when it's set higher. (besides a lower framerate)

Depends on the game, but my laptop can handle FO3 on ultra high. I usually play on 360 though

Full ultra if I can run it, although I usually only use 4x AA and always 1080p. Some more demanding games end up as weird mixes of medium, high, and ultra.

This isn't really an impressive task... I have an AMD 6970. No xfire or anything.

Is it really that hard to get into PC gaming? I'm a PC gamer, and basically all I ever have to do is start the computer, click a .exe, click the "Install" button, and then click the game in the Start menu. What is so difficult about PC gaming?

2gb VRAM
8gb system RAM
I play mainly pre 2009 games, Metro 2033 Red Orchestra 2 and Space Marine are my only post 2009 games, need to reinstall them and see how they play.

So.. Did anyone else think this thread was going to be about difficulty bragging rights, not " PC specs" bragging rights?

Depends. I can usually get away with most settings maxed out, usually keeping the AA around 2x or 4x and the AF around 16x. Keep in mind that AF really doesn't impact performance by much...and at 1980x1080, do you really need more than 4x AA :P?

The only two games that have really challenged my rig so far (that I've played) are Metro 2033 and Skyrim.

It's funny because I've been using the same rig for around 3 and a half years now, and while I have considered upgrading, I've realized that not only are there only a couple of games that I can't max out, but even if I can't, I really don't need to play them that high.

One of the things that bothers me about PC gaming is that I'm kinda funny when it comes to running the games. If I can't run the game on its highest setting without so much as a hiccup, I just don't want to play it. Kinda strange, but that's just what I do.

I try for maxed settings, which I can achieve just fine in most games. But Crysis 2 I have to play on lowest settings with my resolution. Specs in sig. I am buying a 7970 tomorrow though to help out some.

I don't know why that would be the case. Crysis 2 was optimized far better than its predecessor, and I was able to play it on mostly maxed settings on my HD 4870 512MB.

Oh I can max it fine when playing at 1920x1080 and get 45-50FPS. But at 5760x1080 I have to play at lowest in order to get 35FPS+. I am using the High Res texture pack and DX11. What resolution are you running it at?

I wish Crysis 2 was still on steam (I still have it on my steam wishlist)

I greatly prefer steam over origin, out if personal preference.

I'm not a big fan of AA, I use FXAA in Skyrim and I find that looks a lot nicer than normal AA.

Unless you're running at a resolution of 64x64 I can't really see how you can tell a difference past x8 AA.

Well, PS3 games are kind of set and my PC games vary on the game, but it's not a very strong PC, so...

Sounded to me like he meant tutorials/walkthroughs and stuff, to do with the game, not the platform. Don't feel too alpha.
