What should my assassin build be?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 10:51 pm

Right now I am wanting to get back into a new file on NV due to my EW character being balls. However, I can't figure out how to put my perks//specials//skills//traits:

I want my character to be a long range assassin, trying only to use snipers for long range kills, in and out of V.A.T.S. For close range, he will try to rely on melee weapons, but 10mm pistols are there if needed. I am also hoping to get some "role-playing" out of the game, not just playing as a FPS. Any idea's on a good build for me?

Tag Sneak, Speech/Repair (Handloaded ammo is the best), and Guns.
Put plenty points into Melee, Lockpick, Repair/Speech (It's so damn useful), and maybe Unarmed. Bump AGI, INT, PER (It increases draw distance, helpful for snipers), and 6 STR for the SR, Weapon handling to reduce the AMR to 6 late-game, and Luck can suffer as you are guaranteed sneak crits.

Guns 100
Sneak 100

Trigger Discipline

Silent Running
Light Step

That is a very basic build for everything. Take those and you will be the perfect assassin.

I'd say no stat should be above 7 or below 4, as they will maintain usefulness and not be wasted on small fish. .

I think a perfect sniper build using Gobi sniper rifle that can VATS with This Machine for close encounters is:

S 3
P 6
E 8
C 1
I 7
A 7
L 8

With Small Frame and Built to Destroy traits, this guy is not to be f**ked with, despite his low strength. After the requisite implants, you can run around the Wasteland with your Agility and Endurance maxed using a wasteland outfit, and you can max your Perception and Intelligence with a Mentat when needed. I typically go with the following perks: Rapid Reload, Educated, Comprehension, Commando, Hand Loader, Silent Running, Finesse, Weapon Handling, Better Criticals, Jury Rigging, Sniper, Action Boy x2, Grim Reaper, Math Wrath (or whatever you want, like Toughness).

Tag Guns, Repair, and Sneak but don't forget to build your Speech, Lockpick, Science, etc. You'll have plenty of points to max most with the help of skillbooks and magazines/mentats.

There are just too many perks too try to build an effective melee/sniper requiring too many compromises, I think. Either build a good sniper, or a strong melee character. Trying to go for both weakens both abilities IMHO.

Obviously not built for hardcoe unless you use your friends as a mule. Switch to armor for close combat, otherwise untouchable. Once you have Hand Loader, Deathclaws can easily be picked off from a distance.

Doesnt make much sense to me. High strength and intelligence arent essential for a normal sniper build in my opinion. Charisma can be dumped completely. That gives you 9 points to spend on more useful stuff like Perception, Agility and Luck.

Luck isnt important for the first sneak shot because it will score a critical hit regardless of your Luck. However, not all your kills will be from sneak.

Mine is:

S: 4
P: 7
E: 3
C: 7
I: 5
A: 7
L: 7

Tags: Sneak, Lockpick, Guns

Minor skill: Repair, Explosives Speech

Traits: Trigger Dicipline, Small Frame (scale 0.95 ;))

Perks: Black Widow and Cherchez la Femme (RP and practical reasons ;)), Gunslinger (i use VATS for headshots with handguns when the enemy gets too close), Sniper, Better Criticals, Finesse, Shotgun Surgeon, Hand Loader, Silent Running (obviously), Friend of the Night, Night Person.

Also the health regeneration implant to minize carry weight from healing items. Despite low healing rate it works well since combat is fought on my terms.

Equipment is pistols, rifles and shotguns. Handgrenades for groups and mines as traps. Poor endurance means fighting is mostly long-range sneak attacks at nights. Leather Armor or Chinese Stealth Suit, mostly Merc Cruiser outfit, sunglasses and bandana.

I'm starting over with a build directed towards unarmed, melee and sniping. I have 8 strength and am pushing up unarmed and melee mostly with speech, locks and guns following along. A sniper rifle seems to work fine with medium/low guns.

Working quite well for the early game but I have yet to acquire a sniper rifle. The bladed gauntlet is fun.

Already stated that I am planning on trying to use melee, so the additional points taken out of strength mean I carry less, and need to buff up strength. And then Good Natured is going to reduce my melee even more, so it's basically killing my melee skill right off the bat.

Aha, well Strength 5 gives you 200 lbs carry capacity which should be enough. Or you could take one point off Luck and bump Strength to 6. With implants you'll raise Strength to 7 and Luck to 8.

And maybe Heavy Handed is more useful if you will rely on Melee for those close encounters.

I would make S5 and E6 cause you can implant S to 6 with an implant or IT if you really need it that early. I still don't understand why people are so obsessed with Built To Destroy when in this type of build most of your attacks will be sneak attack criticals, and from my understanding the AM rifle can't have a suppressor on it so its not really good for stealth kills anyway (and its overrated) so all you need is S6 for a basic sniper rifle.

AM svcks , its only good for killing things with one shot and if something dies with one sneak attack u probably can kill it with any build too
good weapons for endgame are Euclid's C-Finder ,Brush Gun,Ranger Sequoia and maybe All-American for dps fights with low armor targets easy to find bullets for it too

ofc a classic sniper and a classic magnum for my build are perfect too :D

If you're gong to take the 4eyes trait or just like wearing hats I'd say take a point or 2 out of P so you can start with S6 so you don't have to worry about implanting it or taking weapon handling so you can use a sniper rifle right off the bat but a fully modded varmint rifle should be fine for a while. Or just go get the ratslayer if your by it and feel like going and getting it. It usually holds me off until I'm about lvl 15.
