What should I know about Dawnguard new features? No Spoilers

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 8:19 pm

Got Dawnguard, and I am wondering what is new, that I should know about, without any new spoilers please. I turned into a Vampire Lord. I am wondering if I shouldn't have, but roll playing it, I just didn't want the one "unforgiven moment".

So being a VL now, what is the left blue power attack? I use it but don't see anything that it's suppose to do.

I read something about holding the left and right trigger or bumber to do something. What would this be? When and how can you do this?

So what else am I missing? (no spoilers of course :)) What is new to Dawnguard that I may be missing and not seeing?

The blue one is just a simple raise dead spell but sadly it only works on very weak corpses.I never use that one.The best spell is probably the drain life blast and summon gargoyle. The rest is useless trash, fun to try out once but not very useful. The night powers are much better than the spells.

Well, on the Dawnguard side there are various types of Crossbows, some you can not get without being with them. There is a lengthy side quest you can get on either side. New random encounters you'll see if you travel the world. New dragon types (if you're leveled up enough). New locations, you'll see later on in the DLC (can't miss them, so don't worry). New items you'll be sure to see as you play. New dungeons, some that have no connection to the man quest of either faction from the DLC.

I started Dawnguard at level 10, now 14. Should I be doing some more Skyrim quests to level up more,
to make Dawnguard more excititng?

So it looks like I am going to miss some various types of Crossbows. I was hoping if i had to fight them,
they would be carrying those crossbows, and I could loot their dead corpse.

Where do I learn the night powers? Maybe it's time to see The Lord and let him re-explain everything
to me.

Thanks guys, greatly appreciated.

I played on the Dawnguard side, so I'm not sure if you're able to pick up the better Crossbows off of the Dawnguard's bodies. The better Crossbows are obtained through sidequests, so I don't think that will be possible. You'll probably end up getting the regular standard crossbow or the one above that one. I was level 63 going through Dawnguard and it as pretty exciting fighting leveled up enemies, but remember I was on the Dawnguard side, so I was fighting cool vampire varieties and Gargoyles and their varieties. I'm not sure what leveled enemies you'll fight on the Dawnguard side. So it might be worth leveling up a bit, to see some leveled enemies.

You won't be seeing Revered or Legendary dragons anytime soon. I think Revered dragons appear at high levels (60+) or "maybe" you might come across one later on in the DLC. Legendary dragons, according to reports from people don't show up until sometime after level 70 (which I have never encountered one lol).

As for the Vampire Lord's powers, I can not say, as I have not played that faction, yet.

Played on vamp side for a bit, and you're able to gain night powers and blood spells through the perk tree

Wash your hands after touching ANYTHING in castle Volkihar. Seriously. I'm not kidding. That place needs a scrub down with some Oxi-Clean.

I've onyl played Dawnguard-side, but from what I've read it would appear the Dawnguard-side has more weapons, armor, etc; Vampire side has more mage stuff. It depends on your play style, I guess.

And from I've read the Vampires can only find the basic crossbows.

Thanks guys. Yeah I was surprised how dark everything is in a dungeon. I would like to get new stuff from the Dawnguard side, but since I am sort of roll playing (he just looked to mean to try and go up agaisnt him, plus Serenna, seems so nice and pleasent) I changed my mind and sided with them. (guess next playthrough I will do Dawnguard side)

I also play a mage type character so nice to know now, that Vampires is for the mage side. :)

Yeah that castle does need a good scrubbing. Almost why I didn't want to join them. Also this is the first time now in Any TES game, I finally became a good Vammpire. Surpised I am still can be out in the sun without any real effects, but at least I don't Glitter. :P
