What slang name could used for American Football?

pigskins?

Can't think of a name that incorporates all of the commercials, beer, and boobs....

Actually, I won't go to a watch an Am. Football game anymore because it's boring....way too many commercial breaks.

"Timeouts", the game where the goal is to drive introverted highschool band members mad by stopping the clock every ten seconds.

Nah, that's only used when talking to someone from outside of Australia. There are so many sports called Football it's not funny.
Most of the time, we call it Footy. Hence TV shows such as the Footy Show and Footy Flashbacks.

As to the OP's question ... I've got no idea. I don't know the first thing about American football.

Call it what you want. I am still calling our great sport football and your crappy sport soccer.

Spoiler

I might not be totally serious about soccer being a crappy sport, I did play both sports as well as basketball and baseball lol.

Honestly though, given how long we are taking to adopt the damn metric system? Good luck! Getting even a small iota of change to occur in regards to the game's name will be difficult lol. 'Murrica.

Possible names.

For most of the world isn't the slang already considered to be "American Football" because to most of the world Football is the name given to soccer?

In australia we've always traditionally referred to american football as "gridiron".

What you call each sport really depends where you're from.

From my specific part of australia it's like this-

Rugby Union = Rugby

American Football = Gridiron

Association Football = Soccer

Australian Rules Football = GayFL

Rugby League = Football

Basically every area calls their main sport "football", well of these football derived sports. In victoria australia they would call aussie rules "football", in ireland they call gaelic football "football", in america you call gridiron "football", and in most places not good enough to have a sport they're best at, they call soccer "football". It's kind of the default football, but any country that gets passionate about a different variety ends up referring to it as THE football.

Before long American football may be known simply as '2-hand Touch', I'm afraid. Anyone who has been paying any attention to what has been going on lately amongst the professional and college football leagues should know what I am talking about.

Who knew American football was such a violent and physical sport with high injury potential.... Surely not the players who have been preparing for it their whole lives....
