What survival mode should be

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2016 8:31 pm

Survival mode should be, as the name says, about survival - which means food, radiation, fatigue, environment. It should NOT be a about being at a disadvantage by default in every fight. I really wish it was like hardcoe mode in new vegas: the difficulty modes from easy to hard are what should decide whether you face overpowered enemies or weak ones, survival mode should be all about the role playing element and immersion into the world, too bad its not. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Not sure what disadvantage you're talking about. Lower dmg output? Because I'm pretty sure that's being changed with it to make enemies go down easier

Pretty sure its because the survival difficulty level, is basically cut and paste of very hard + survival elements. By default on 'survival', the player does 50% less damage then normal, and npcs gain 2x the damage. So, now survival is bringing the adrenaline mechanic, which boosts player damage or some such.

*shrugs* I will wait and see since I can beta it next week :P

Enemies do more damage by default than the player, which means you are at a disadvantage. My point is very easy to hard should determine damage output etc while survival mode just adds all those other elements to the game. Isn't that how hardcoe mode was?

''Realistic'' bullet damage is being implemented which goes both ways - Player will deal more damage but also will take more damage. The same applies to NPCs.

I like this change! No more bullet sponges....hopefully.

It was always weird/disappointing that difficulty in Beth's Fallout games has always been restricted to combat; on the other hand, it's not like they're puzzle games. Still, in say NV you could have made speech checks harder, and possibly some other things.

So this is clearly an attempt to move past that paradigm, and it's welcome. Mostly.

They definitely need to get rid of the stupid bullet sponginess.

The FONV style hardcoe is definitely a step in the right direction, still just meter maiding.

I want a real SURVIVAL mode where resources are scarce, where finding a double barreled shotgun is a godsend. Or at least bring back weapon/armor breakdown, where high end weapons require more maintenance/"junk".

I want changing conditions to change how the game plays, like sleep or food deprivation causes hallucinations, or lack of food/water and you can no longer sprint, blurred vision, etc., not just - "Oh your hungry meter is at 59%, -1 STR for you!"

Plus more dangerous enemies at night, like more charred ghouls and chameleon deathclaws.

From what I understand at the moment. The longer you've been fighting the better you are at it until you start becoming fatigued. This is done by adding adrenaline perks the more enemies you kill I believe. So hopefully the combat isn't bullet sponge galore, They've specifically tried to deal with this and that's why Bethesda is amazing. They'll actually listen.
