What is the best zombie game out there?

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 6:22 am

I really want to find a zombie game that is about survival and not becoming this powerful zombie slayer because that doesn't really bring that panicking atmosphere. So got any tips?

The upcoming http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/70755535/dead-state-the-zombie-survival-rpg is very promising. Someone else can fill you in on Day-Z.

Most modern zombie games focus on "pwnage" so you may have to look at the oldies. Resident Evil 4 and older are all good. Apart from that, not really zombies, but there are plenty of great survival horror games. Silent Hill 4 and before, Clock Tower 3 ( I haven't played the older ones, but I can vouch for 3), and more modern, Amnesia and Prenumbra.

The DayZ mod for Arma 2 is by far the best zombie game if you want something with an emphasis on survival instead of horror or arcade-style horde killing.

Call of Duty World at War and Black Ops zombie survival modes. You're not all powerful and it's all about survival. Lot's of fun.

I'd say Dead Island is pretty great in terms of its atmosphere, the story leaves something to be desired, but over all I found it enjoyable.

I'm with Holy Assassin. Amnesia isn't really a zombie game, but I'd vouch for it being [censored] terrifying, in that dreadful kind of way. Also, the Walking Dead XBLA game has been getting good press, but I haven't played it myself yet.

Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare expansion - zombies, check, open world, check, not all-powerful, check.

None. Zombie games are dumb, a short cut by devs to make it ok to blow up lots people.

Edit - wow, the censorship here...

Right! I hate games where you can blow up people! Those games are all BLASPHEMY!

Now I remember about a Carmageddon remake that has zombie people you can run over instead of real people. It's not an official Carmageddon game though, the developer is working on the new one now,

Edit: There's also another zombie game that's a top down view game with a car with weapons. Can't remember what it was called anymore.

"Dead Island" is the best one released at the moment.

Really great atmosphere and very immersive.

"Resident Evil" is a little tired and overdone.

"Dead Rising" has too much of a comedy element.

"Lef 4 Dead" isn't bad but looks very dated.

"Red Dead Revolver: Undead Nightmare" is simply an amusing add on.

If you're wanting a survival game then "Dead Island" should be a pleasant surprise.

I like the Left 4 Dead games a lot. They aren't particularly scary at all, but it's good junk food horror.

As for scares, yeah probably Resident Evil 1&2. Though I've yet to get to Dead Island, hear great things about it.

Left 4 Dead 2, although now that Pov has announced Dead State to me I'm really excited for it.

Just a heads up, don't get your hopes up for Dead Island. It's quite repetitive with no story at all. I spent the last week of my summer in love with it, I ate tons of pizza and drank tons of Mountain Dew. The best part was the food and drinks, game was there because I was with friends :stare:
