What's the general consensus for the PS3 version? Worth it?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 3:44 pm

I only have a PS3 and PC but my PC isn't powerful enough and I much prefer to game on my PS3. Is it really that bad? I really want to get this game but I feel like I will be disappointed because of all these technical difficulties. I know the X360 version is also superior but I just want to know if the PS3 version is worth it.

I picked it up for PC, but my buddy got it for PS3. He says he lags a bit sometimes and hangs up, but that it isn't anything major. He also told me he had three crashes so far that made him turn off his PS3 manually, which may be more cause for concern. As always with TES though, get it on PC if your rig can handle it. Skyrim seems pretty well optimized. My laptop runs it on Very High settings, which is nice.

Yeah, it's perfectly playable. I didn't start to experience any "real" (aka bad) framerate hiccups until about 8 hours into the game. And even when it does get bad, i just restart the console and i'm good for about 2-5 hours :)

PS3 version is fine the only real issues ive ran across is during extended playing of the game (between 3-5 hours i get some frame-rate lag and some "strobing textures" when i move but it is easily remedied by saving my game and quiting to the XMB rebooting the game)... other than that i would say to buy the PC version if your willing to upgrade your PC as you would have mods...

The PS3 version has great anti-aliasing, practically no screen tearing, great textures for the most part, and a good draw distance. By comparison it also has a much better framerate than both Fallout 3 and Oblivion.

Overall it's a big step up from Fallout 3 in terms of the PS3 port.

I have the PS3 version, and have played it practically all day everyday since the release. As everyone else has said you will experience a bit of lag after extended periods of play, but that is easily remedied by stopping and restarting the game (don't forget to save of course). I recommend it, only if your PC can't handle it. I know mine can't or I would be on the PC mostly because of the massive amount of mods that will be released and the superior patches that many gamers develop on their own.

All-in-All the PS3 version is good, from what I've heard the Xbox360 Version is having a lot more major issues than the PS3.

Considering the PS3 hardware ( or the 360's for that matter ) does not have or support antialiasing, that's quite a feat. The PS3 uses tricks by blurring the edges. Kind of a poor man's version of FXAA.

I was going to get it for PS3, but then I remembered the cluster[censored]s that were Fallout 3 and especially Fallout: New Vegas and decided no way. I got tired of risking damage to my PS3 having to manually reboot it every 30 minutes to an hour due to New Vegas constantly freezing up.

And I passed on the 360 version because, well, all my 360 does is sit and gather dust because all the games look and play better on the PS3 and PC and there aren't any 360-only games worth hooking it back up.

I'll get the PS3 version when the patched up GOTY is released with all the DLC included on the disk. Until then, I'll stick to playing on my PC.

If you don't have a wide screen the text will be unreadable on consoles.

Set the PS3 for 480p and SDTV works fine. I had to use it on one for a bit when my old HDTV took a dump. Graphics just look crappier, and yeah the text is blurred but readable once you find the right distance from the tv to sit. lol

The Xbox 360 won't work with SDTV at all without cropping chunks of screen off, though.

You are correct. They used a special system that blurs edges. It looks fantastic to be honest. I have not noticed a single issue with edges, and compared to Fallout 3 on the PS3, that's a miracle. I can assure you Skyrim's performance on the PS3 is much better than both Oblivion and Fallout 3 and it absolutely blows NV out of the water.

well I come from the PC version where I get a solid 60fps 90% of the time, and going to the PS3 version (played round a friends), it feels very jerky and sometimes drops to about 25fps but I think I only noticed this because I am use to 60fps.

I suppose its just something to consider, its not hard to build a PC to run this game, it scales incredibly well, but of course it all depends on how much your willing to spend : )

Beat me to it, it gets bad after a looooong stretch but it may be a slight memory dump issue. Either way, a system restart fixes it instantly. I'm loving it on ps3.

My thoughts exactly, i don't understand why people are complaining on PS3 subforum, i don't get it. All it takes is a console restart.

New Vegas is a shame on the PS3.... I would be embarrased to admidt I had anything to do with the PS3 version, its a fun game but is HORRIBLE on PS3. I have no clue how some people said that FO:NV was "good" on PS3, I got allmost all the DLC and it got to the point I needed to manually shut down my PS3 ATLEAST every 30 mins... Sometimes I would load my game and freeze right on the spot before I even did anything. And if I went anywere near the sink in old world blues my game would lag so bad and eventually freeze if I didnt leave the area.

But as for Skyrim I havent heard anything bad so far about it, lag that shows up every 5-7 hours is not bad what so ever.

But im also still waiting for my copy of Skyrim........ Well that 3 month in advance order of Skyrim sure was worth it..... and I may not get it until the 21st.....

I'm a PS3 player and read the big reviewer articles theY all state that it looks and runs worse than the Xbox. Bethesda really are terrible porters they should let the company that ported oblivion port their future games.
