What the heck am I doing wrong in Caravan?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 6:26 pm

I have tried for a month straight to try and get Caravan to work and cannot. I have read things and built my deck to include about 24 cards that are only 10's, 9's, and 7's and the rest are Kings or Aces, just
to fill it out. When I start, I am able to put down one card on each track (a 10, 9, or 7). After that, a 10, 9, or 7 comes up and it a) only allows me to play it on the first track and it's RED meaning I can't lay it
down. If, for example, I started with a 7 on the first track, if I get a 9 or a 10, it will not allow me to lay it down. What the heck? Isn't it supposed to? And they are different suites, too. Like I might have a 7
of diamonds and a 10 of clubs comes up and it won't let me.

I am so effing frustrated with this stupid ass game... what am I doing wrong?

Arrow keys left-right switch tracks, down arrow will move it below the current card which will allow you to place it.

THANK YOU! Geez... I must be deaf or blind because everywhere I've looked I didn't see how to do that... I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Why is that I'm sometimes unable to place some cards in the decks?

Ok a weird one, maybe someone can explain why...

So I'm playing Lacey and I have 26-26-26 on all three tracks. She has 26 on one of the tracks and sub-20's on the other two. Yet the game doesn't end and we're going through cards. Well, all I
seem to be able to do is discard, and if we keep going, I'll lose because I'll run out of cards before her. Why did it not end already?

I think you have to discard.

Can you Clarify this.If you mean when you buy new cards from a vendor put the new cards in a container then remove them and they will appear in your deck.Or are you meaning when playing caravan itself. When laying cards you can only go in ascending/descending order eg

you start with an ace then lay a four on the ace you cannot then lay a two on top of the four unless you lay a queen down first to reverse direction.

Unfortunately, in no place does it mention that you use the arrow keys (not even WASD, but the arrows) to change which card in the hand or which track on the board you are playing to. That is a big problem that they should have caught...

When adding cards to your playing deck, you cannot use two of the same card with the same back. So if you have two 10 of spades from Gommorah, you can only add one to the deck. You could have a 10 of spades from Gommroah and one from the Tops though.

For scoring, any time there are ties one one or more of the tracks the game does not end. There has to be a definite winner in each track, even if you are winning the other two. You can play a Jack on one of their cards to make them drop below you, or a King on one of their cards to make them bust that track and win.

Lay a jack on her 26 if you have one or lay king on her 26 to push her over the limit.

Seems like the game dislikes tied tracks. Use a Jack or a King to bust her 26 track and you should get the win.

In what way?

You should be able to choose at least thirty and as many as you want.

Bottom row is your available cards, top row is your chosen cards. Face up cards indicate which row they are in. Very center card is the one you are focusing on. You can move it up to the top row or down to the bottom row with W and A, I believe.

Which reminds me, if you are winning in two tracks and tied in the third, and can't bust them with a face card, bust your own side of the tie. You'll still win two tracks to one.

Ahh great suggestions, all. I just needed to bust my own or bust theirs. Ties are no good! Thanks again!

I mean while I'm playing. For example, I have 17 in some deck and I want to place 9 on it, but the game doesn't let me. It sometimes allows me to put some smaller cards on it, though.

Cards have to follow a numeric sequence on each track. Either ascending or descending. "A, 2, 5, 9" or "10, 9, 4, 3" for instance. Exception is when it is the same suit. You can place an out of sequence number if it is the same suit as the previous card (I don't believe this changes the ascending/descending pattern of the track). Queens reverse the ascending/descending pattern of a track. You can never lay the same number down twice in a row on a track....can't place a nine on a nine.
