You get a carrying capacity worth of Gourds, climb to High Hrothgar, drop the gourds one at a time, then go find each one. Anything shaped like a pumpkin is definitely for dropping off high places.

I'd rather fill them with some of the worthless gems that I've collected. That way I'll have a lute, flute, drums and a couple gigantic maracas.... anyone care for some Mariachi?
