What's the MAIN city in Skyrim?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 2:59 pm

Still finding my way around, won't spoil anything, but just wondering if there's a massive "mega city" type thing like in Oblivion? I know I'll find it in due course, just thought I'd ask.

I've not travelled to each city yet (I'm making my way around anti-clockwise) but I'd say Solitude. Not sure if that's correct lore-wise, I bet someone will be along soon to clarify.

There's the two capitals for each faction; solitude for imperials, winterhold (I think? it might be windhelm though) for the stormcloaks.. I think that's as far as it goes.

Thanks for the quick replies. I loved having Imperial City in Oblivion, just awesome having a massive place like that to roam around.

Hope you're all enjoying it as much as me ;) Work tomorrow, gutted.

There is a major city in five of the holds. There are nine holds, other four are ruled by minor "main" cities :) Each hold has a Jarl.

And each of the five cities is comparable (size-wise) into Imperial City.

I like not having an extremely central town.

The world of Skyrim is almost twice the size of Oblivion, Todd Howard lied to us when he said "about the same size". The cities aren't humongous, but they are about the size of Imperial City, maybe some a a bit smaller than that but who cares lol.

Markarth is probably the biggest city, although that might just be due to its verticality. I haven't visited Solitude yet.

Solitude is the capital for the Imperial Legion in Skyrim, and (I think) also where the High King's throne is. But during the civil war, Windhelm is the capital for the Stormcloak Rebellion and Jarl Ulfric. But apart from those two northern cities, Whiterun lies in the center of the map as sort of a "trade hub" (though there's only like 3-4 shops in the city).

Not really. Whiterun is the main trading point for both Stormcloak and Legion. Windhelm is the Stormcloak capitol and Solitude is the Legion capitol.

I agree, I don't think it's as simple as "Skyrim 'feels' bigger", I think Skyrim -is- bigger. It took me -waaaayyyy- too long to run from Winterhold to Whiterun last night for the 2 maps to be the same size.

Why you think like that? It's about the same size, it just has way more (denser) content :)

Awesome. Exploring is what gets me every time. Love it.

Whiterun feels like the main city to me, even if it isn't as important as Solitude or Windhelm.

Winterhold is but a small settlement with the mages guild really.

Solitude is the one I'd say, it's by far the most 'imperial cityish' of all cities.
