So I was looking at the textured map last night and noticed a red "x" on it. A couple minutes later I counted there to be at least 21 of them on this map. I might have missed one or 2 but the real thing is what do these x's indicate? At first I thought they were treasure locations for the treasure maps but i'm pretty sure that there are only 10 treasure maps. So does anybody have any clue for what these x's are for or what they indicate?

I'm going to to try to go to the location of one later when I go on but i'm not sure how successful i'll be because this map is much different then the 3D in-game one.

Hmm, good question! On the awesome Morrowind map, the x's designated sunken ships. I wonder what they are in Skyrim?

I've found a couple hand drawn treasure maps in game. I wonder if they're related.

Only 1 of the x's is in water so it can't be sunken ships.

I'm thinking it's probably some hidden treasure chests or something. There isn't many options for what it could be.

21? isnt that the number of those rare gems that you have to find?

Looking at the location of the one near to Riverwood, I might guess that they're standing stones.

I was actually thinking that these were the location of the Unusual Gems also but the wiki says that there are 24 of them and some are found inside the cities and there are no x's on the cities on the map.

Theyre the Guradian stones. The ones you activate to get powers.

I've checked out a half dozen of tose Xs and theyve all been stones.

I've heard a theory:

I haven't seen it (ordered online through Steam), but it sounds like the Dragon Stone (or similar) thingy in the main quest...

These markers are for the stones which you activate very early in the game (20% xp increase to which ever school).

I found http://skyrimweb.primagamesinapp.com/search/map/2813/ and some of the Guardian Stones and other ones seem to be in some of the locations of the x's.

I was kind of hoping that these would be more treasure locations but oh well.
