What's with the Former Jarls hangin in Solitude?

Post » Fri Aug 10, 2012 9:01 am

All of them, their housecarls and some kids are hangin in the basemant of the Blue Palace????

Seriously, they lose their positions, and instead of leaving, being killed, or being thrown in jail, you just have them all cram into a small room, with 4 bunks???? Then, when i go down there, they bad mouth me n the such??? What is the point???? It's almost as bad as when i kill some imperial soldiers after Stormcloaks take over, i still get a bounty(lol). Uh, no, the imperials are fodder.

The more i play(300+hours), the more i think the game was/is not finished. And dawnguard is another whole thing, the skyrim community pushed that thing out too soon, begging for DLC, crying for DLC, etc. I admit, i asked and hounded for DLC. But i would of been happy with weapons, creatures, armor pack as DLC, until they finished dawnguard fully.

Love the game, but i wince at games that have so many bugs, broken quests, and just aren't completely finished.

If you thing that's bad, Stormcloak ex-Jarls hang out in the main hall of the Palace of the Kings, even after Brunwulf takes over.

Some of the Jarls/housecarls are part of quests. If they were killed or disappeared you wouldn't be able to do the quest. Not to mention Ulfric has it out for the Empire not his fellow countrymen.

I have to agree with OP.

The idea is just...dumn. Yes, some of them are involved in quests, but still...

They're stashed there so they can sit and think all day and half the night about everything they lost by steadfastly supporting the Jarl of Solitude, who is still sitting on her throne two floors up because not losing it meant more to her than sticking to her principles like they did.

I think they should have all been placed in jail or executed. I find it strange to walk into Windhelm and have the ex-Jarls be held at a dining table feasting and call me an Imperial dog while they stuff themselves.

It's a longstanding tradition in Windhelm for the current Jarl to provide free food and drink for people who support his enemies and openly slander him and his cause. I've lost count of the free meals old Brunwulf had in the palace when Ulfric was Jarl. I mean, that seemed to be pretty much his entire routine... walk around the city badmouthing Ulfric and the Stormcloaks, promise the unhappy Dunmer that he'll have a word with the Jarl on their behalf, then head on up to the palace for some meat and mead on the public dime. Sadly, Brunwulf's mom was stickler for good manners and taught him never to speak with his mouth full... which I guess explains why he never gets around to talking to Ulfric about anything. :P

If they were hostages they would be relocated to the strongholds of their enemies. During the course of the CW, deposed Jarls are allowed to go to the strongholds of their own factions. That makes no sense while the war is still ongoing. It doesn't even make that much sense after the war is over, when their enemies take control of those capitals. You still have a large number of bitter former enemies who hate you gathered together in a city where dissent against the "occupying" force is bound to be simmering.

I'm failing to understand why this is a problem.

Your actions should have an effect on the world around you. If you kill Jarl Balgruuf, then guess what, you can't do any quests that he has. Well, no crap.

Bethesda talked so much of this up leading up to the release, and then scurried like roaches once the "Wait...I thought you said..." questions started pouring in.

Remember how Skyrim was supposed to have an in-depth economy? Remember how we were supposed to be able to affect said economy by our actions? Remember how we were told that we could cripple cities or help them flourish? Then when the game came out and you couldn't do ANY of these things people were all like, WTF? and nobody EVER answered our questions?

Remember how there was supposed to be this big schism in the Mages Guild between the College of Whispers and the Synod? Remember how we ended up getting nothing but a small little sample size of the Synod during the MG quests? What happened to this story line? They made this sound like it was gonna be a huge storyline. And then it fizzled out like a wet fart.

Not to mention that there is no way the Vigilants of Stendarr didn't have a bigger role in the original story.

This game is NOT finished, and anyone who would even attempt to argue to the contrary is lying to themselves. That 11.11.11 deadline was such a monumental sign of marketing ruining a video game that we have ever seen.

This game should have been SOOOO much better, and without the ominous specter of a ridiculously fabricated deadline in place, I think it would have. So many people called this out the second it was announced- Why are you even setting a deadline?

We will wait for you to finish your games Bethesda. Don't even tell us a date next time. Tell us what the game is, and then just make the damn thing, regardless of how long it takes. We don't care, just make it the way YOU want to make it.
